Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

As nursing application due dates are approaching, anxieties are at an all time high! Today I started looking into different programs other than Ivy Tech here in Indiana. So far I have looked into of Indiana and University of Indianapolis. For those of you who are planning on getting a BSN or higher, both of these colleges seem like a good choice. What have all of you found out or what choices have you made and why?

I, like you, am here in Indiana! I applied to the ASN program. Primarily, cost is a concern for me since I finished my undergraduate degree as well. My thinking is that I will become an RN after graduating with an ASN, which is only 2 years, and then transition into completing a BSN after securing a job. Some hospitals even offer to cover the costs of completing your schooling from ASN to BSN if you continue to work with them. However, each path has its pros and cons. It's up to you to decide which path is best for you. Good luck!

I don't know if you guys know this or not but, Indiana State has partnered with Ivy Tech on their nursing program to make it easier for us to transition. They have an excellent online program that I might do. I have also looked at . I have a friend going for her masters in math education there and loves it. My only thought about that is what would be more cost effective for me. WGU would be if I can take advantage and get enough credits done each semester to make it worth it. But I am also going to look at ISU and see what all I would have to do there. In Anderson, I should be able to secure a hospital job with my ADN, but my goal is to work at Riley in pediatric oncology and I will need my BSN to get into Riley. So I am going to gain some experience here in Anderson while getting my BSN and then hopefully apply at Riley.

I currently work for IU Health which is a partner of Riley. They send their employees to U of I because they have a contract with them. I believe its around $3500 per semester after your ASN is obtained and it takes less than 12 months. They have in class and online options. Riley is an excellent place to work! Good luck to you.

I really like IU Health. My neurologist is at IU in Indianapolis and I have been very happy with them. I also like Community. Ivy Tech partners with St. Vincents up here and they generally pick their new hires from our clinicals. So I am hoping to end up in the ER at St. Vincents to start with.

I think I would like to start as a nurse in the ER. I am a fast paced person and love to see new, crazy, interesting things. I think a person can get a lot of experience working in this area. Good luck to you!
