DUMBEST girl that ever was.Starting later in life(42) and ever so anxious to get a new life for me...hahah

I thought...Im going back to school and finish my nursing degree(I started LONG ago ) way before the internet..cell phones...etc

Anyway...I had been at my community college and taken SOME courses for college transfer....for many reasons DROPPED OUT

Its a different ball game now.I thought..its my local community college...Ill take some things there...some online and Ill take the tests and be a nurse right?NO wrongggggggg

I now realise i must actually APPLY to get INTO nursing school,,,,,be a CNA BEFORE...and what the heck is a TEAS?

placement tests?

I had to take some to see what classes i could take at my school...TEAS is different

and I DONT REMEMBER ANY of that stuff.hhhahahahah

HELP

anything else i should know before I flip out?:lol2:

and any advice on how to"study" for the TEAS?I know you cant....but i rememeber NOTHING from school

Just wanted to let you know that nooo you are not the dumbest girl ever! I am 32 and just starting college! I wanted to "experience" life before I made up my mind...well 2 babes later, a house, a husband, I have finally made my choice!

Oh and if you google TEAS study guide a bunch of things will come up

You are far from dumb but I know what you are going through. I never went to

college and started back at 37. I could kick myself for not starting sooner because it

would have been much easier even a few years ago. The requirement and standards

are raised a little bit every year. For example, this year there is a new proficiency test

to pass before begining science pre-reqs. If I had taken that 2 years ago I never would

have passed that, and would have had to take an additional science class.

I dont know anything about the TEAS. I dont think my school has it.

Have you checked out all the requirements and the actual gpa that is being accepted?

Some people at my school were reading the school literature and very misinformed as

to the grades needed to get into the nursing program.

Take a deep breath, and then start at the beginning. Make sure you are smart about your planning for the next years. Look now into all the nursing schools you want to apply to and into what requirements you need to fulfill (this, plus prerequisites, might differ slightly from school to school). Once you have the list of classes you will actually need you can start chipping off the prerequisites. If you have a lot of prerequisites to do then you might not have to worry about the TEAS just yet, and the TEAS results might only be valid for a limited time anyways, so time the test date accordingly. Also, once you have taken some of the prerequisites, studying might come to you easier again and you might refresh some of the TEAS study areas with your prerequisite curriculum. Start planning longterm, especially if you are considering spicing up your nursing school application with a CNA certificate or volunteer work (seems like you need your CNA cert anyways for one of the schools). You could also get the CNA cert first and work for a few months to see if nursing is really what you want to do before you jump into prerequisites. Volunteering is another great way to get a feel for the actual tasks involved in nursing (even if you won't be able to do them hands-on) before you start.

Becoming a nurse has become very much about determination and perseverance. You can get there if you have set your mind to it, but make sure beforehand that this is what you really want to do.

thanks

pausing and deep breathing are things I dont do well

Im more of a run straight into the wall screaming type of girl,,,lol

i just wanted to start taking pre reqs ASAP,,,like january,,,,maybe i can..at least ONE

love the advice...thanks

Nope, you're not dumb or too old. I'm also 42 and decided to reinvent myself as well. Finished my pre-reqs with a 4.0 and was accepted into the nursing program. Started last week and I'm loving it. Is it hard? YEP!! Can you do it? Heck yeah!!!! If you want it bad enough and are willing to work hard then why not?!! The TEAS isn't that hard it's just the basics, there are some refresher study guides out there for it. My best advice is get every pre-req you possibly can out of the way first that way you can focus on just nursing. My school has a points system for admission and my grades and what I had already taken played a big part along with the TEAS score. Just get serious, get organized and get going! Good luck!!
