UTMB and UT Houston and UT Austin Summer/Fall 2008 applicants

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have applications in to three schools - UTMB, UT Austin, and UT Houston (UTHSC) and I am waiting (not very patiently, I might add). Just wondering if anyone is applying to these schools could post when you receive an interview/admissions letter. Thanks!

Hey... try doing a status check on UT-Austins GIAC website. Mine let me know that I was accepted today! Haven't heard from the nursing school yet, gonna call them tomorrow. :)

Good luck if you haven't found out yet!

Congrats!! :yeah:I bet you are excited! If you dont mind, what is your overall GPA & your science GPA? Did you have high NET scores? Also, did you apply with the minimum credits or did you apply when you had all your pre-req's done?

I am planning on applying to all the surrounding UT's as well in December. San Antonio, Houston, and the Austin campus... I can't wait!

I just checked my status for UT Austin and I was denied. Rejection is never pleasant, but I'm not too disappointed because I had decided against that program. I don't want to committ to an MSN in a spcialty area this soon. I'd rather do a BSN program and then apply for master's programs at a later date. Besides, the AE MSN program only offers a select few specialties. Congrats to those of you who were accepted and best wishes for your success. My brother in law is in the generic 2 year BSN program and speaks highly of the school. Only down side to Austin is that theere aren't many hospitals, or at least not as many as Houston .

I'm right here waiting too! Waiting is the worst!!!! I've applied to Houston only....hoping for the Bacc2 program. That's too bad on getting denied, but your reasoning totally makes sense! Good luck with the other programs!

CONGRATS to apocatastasis! That's great news!!!

Becca - I'm applying for the accelerated program at UT Houston, too. How did your interview go? I had an interview last week and feel like it went really well. It is a mystery to me how they select the 40 applicants from the interviewees, and I have no idea how many they interviewed for those spots. Good luck to us! I heard that if you check your status on UT link you can find out sooner than your letter arrives. I check the status multiple times daily (sad, I know). I wish they would mail letters sooner than April 15. I just think that is cutting it close considering the program starts mid May.

Amen! April 15th is forever away! I think my interview went well...hard to really tell. What day did you interview on? I was on Thursday. I heard that 400 applied for the bacc2 and a little more than 100 got interviews. We'll see i guess! Good luck! Hopefully they'll update it in UTLink in the next month or so.

Thank you for the congratulations, Becca and txgirl! I'm stoked and amazed. I hope y'all get into the programs you're hoping for!

My undergrad is from Tulane (B.A., French, 2007), and I graduated with a 3.78 overall and a 4.0 major GPA. My science scores were around the 3.0 mark, I don't know what they were exactly, but I definitely didn't have perfect scores. I took the GRE for UT-Austin and got a 1340 out of 1600 and a 4.5 writing.

I sort of applied to UTHSC-Houston, as I'm living on West Alabama right by the light rail. It would have been so convenient and awesome to go to UTHSC. Their faculty seem really cool, and the school itself is brand new and allegedly one of the best in the country. Austin can't really compare in hospital facilities to Houston, but it's nice to know that after the first 15 months at UT, it's possible to work anywhere in Texas.

Anyway, with UTHSC-H, I turned everything in and took the NET late last year, but didn't pay the admissions fee because I was really discouraged by the admit rate of like 8%, even having decent GPAs and whatnot, lol. My aunt says I was stupid not to apply, because I'm a guy and would probably be a shoe-in. No crying over spilt milk, I guess.

Two days after the due date, I realized I should have applied to the UTMB-Galveston program because it's the same thing and probably has a much higher admit rate. For those of you wanting to do Houston, maybe you should give UTMB a try.

Let us know how everything turns out, and good luck once again!

Hi all,

I have applied to UTMB and UT Houston (the Bacc2 programs). I will interview for UT-H next week. I already received my acceptance letter into UTMB. If I get accepted into both schools, I do not know which one to choose. UT - Houston is closer to me, while UTMB is 100 miles round trip--however, I would only need to travel to Galveston one time per week due to online courses and local clinicals. Do either of you have a preference of schools between UTMB and UT? Also, UTMB has already offered me a 2K scholarship.

Thank you for your help! And good luck to us all!

Hello, i just registered to this forum when i read a couple of your posts... my backround is so similar to yours (I'm a tech too, for 4 years, though). I applied to UT-houston and UTMB... turned my applications in around Dec. 19th... kind of late, I know. Anyway, I did get an interview with UT-houston but haven't heard anything back from either one! I'm getting so anxious. I'll post any new info that I get!

Ivanka, I'm also waiting to hear from UTMB. Will you post if you get an interview letter? I'll do the same.

Britt, no problem, will do. Actually I sent an email to UTMBs Dr. Loffredo. (i'm applying to the generic program, by the way) but he inferred that it would be a while longer for me... so I assume that you will hear from them sooner, as your program starts in May. Anyway, yes, if I hear anything I'll let you know :)
