UIC nursing school

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Okay so i am applying to the BSN program at UIC 2015. I am so worried because i have no idea what to expect. It is one of the top nursing schools in the country. I am literally freaking out because i am competing for one of the 90 spots. My Cum GPA is 3.89 and science GPA is 4.0 and I graduated out of high school a year early (at the age 16). i am currently 18 years old. I finished most of my pre-reqs at a community college because its cheaper, I also finished my essay questions but i am worried that its not good enough. I volunteer at my local hospital for over a few months and i know that nursing is what I want to do.

Can someone please tell me if I have a good chance of getting in? Getting into UIC is my dream goal. Is my GPA good? Is there anything that i can do to improve my chances of getting in?

I am applying sometime next week.

Hey there,

I also applied at UIC for fall 2015 BSN program, and I also took my pre-reqs at a community college for the same reason. They extended the application deadline until January 25th, but only for those with incomplete applications. No new applications will be accepted. Now, about your GPA...every single year there are numerous students who apply and you never know how many of those students have high GPA. Still, your GPA is not bad, it's good enough. We should receive the general admission soon after January 25th, but the nursing is the one that we have to wait for the most. There's not much you can do after you submit your application. Stay positive! Good luck! You should be fine :)

Thank you for the positive comment. I wish you luck as well. My GPA went up to 3.91 last semester. Do you know when the interviews will take place? I am so nervous. Did you start preparing for it? I think my essays and personal statement are really good. I spent over 2 months on them. the interviews are killing me.

Hello, I also applied to uic. Any idea why they extended the deadline? @ Oweisi your GPA is fantastic. How are your letters of recomendation?

Thank you. I actually had my chemistry teacher and the director of my local mosque (where I volunteer) write me one. They both told me that they wrote me really good ones. How about you? if you don't mind sharing. And I do not know why they extended the deadline. Hopefully it won't affect us getting in the program. I also asked the college when we will be receiving information about the interview. They said in the next few weeks.

That's great! Sounds like your in good shape. I had my cna teacher and one of the docs that I work with write one. Hopefully they were good. My essays were ok. I also did my prerequisites at a community college. The interview portion also worries me, let us know if when you get an invite or any updates!

I will! Good luck to you. The other thing that scares me is that they only accept 96 people out of 600 applicants. Hopefully we are one of them. :) I'll keep you guys posted.

Hi! I also applied to UIC's fall 2015 BSN program. I am a current student at UIC. I also took all my classes at UIC. Our pre-nursing counselors have told us that gpa does matter highly but it matters where you took your classes. My cumulative gpa is only 3.41 but the admission college greatly favors the fact I took all my pre-reqs at uic. It shows how I can easily transition into the nursing program. Within a few weeks, interview information will be sent out to applicants who meet the minimum gpa standards, pre-Reqs, and submitted ALL supplemental information in CORRECT format like pdf not word document. Then after the group interviews, the admission board will look into our personal statements, recommendation letters, and group interview critic with the in-prompt essay written during the group interview. They are hoping to send out acceptance or reject letters by early to mid April this year. My counselor told me that due to the volume of applicants, it's very much like a lottery. They have to accept a range of students from under 3.0 gpas to close to 4.0 gpas. My friend applied last year with a 3.78 gpa from all uic classes, good rec letters, volunteer experience, good statements yet she simply didn't get in. No clue why not. I highly recommend not to think about it just prepare and do your best! It's literally out of our hands now

That scares me if she didn't get in. Do u have any idea what they will ask in the interview? How about the in prompt essay? this is my number 1 choice, and I would be devastated if I don't get in... does UIC send interview information to everyone who met those requirements?

Any idea what they take into account regarding your resume and work experience?

Hi everyone,

For those who applied for the BSN program as transfer students, has anyone's status changed yet? If so, how soon has your status changed after the deadline passed? My application was fully complete way before deadline. However, when I log in to check my application status, all I've been seeing ever since the deadline passed is "Application materials received - Please await further updates." Although I applied as a transfer student through the College of Nursing, I was told that I should receive a general admission decision and then my file would be referred to the College of Nursing (obviously from then on, it would be up to the College of Nursing to determine whether I'll move on in this process or not). My only concern is that the nursing interviews letters will be send out somewhere in February, yet my file hasn't even made it or hasn't even been referred to the nursing department yet... Any thoughts on this? Am I the only one with this issue?

Also, when I called the College of Nursing I was told that they have the file, but they haven't got to it yet. So, how could they send out the letters for the interview if not everyone's file has been reviewed? Kind of confused on this one...I hope the lottery thing brought up by Tessy0103 is not true because we all deserve a chance to have the admission board look at our files....Good luck everyone
