To be or NOT to be

hello everyone, i just got finished with my freshman year pre-reqs at bloomfield college but sadly i finished the whole freshman year with a 3.08. my first semester i finished with a 2.8 due to the grade i had in GEO, which in my opinion is a pointless class. but for the spring sem i finished with a 3.35. so my question is has any students been excepted to BC nursing with that low of a gpa? on the website it says you need a 2.5, but i dont really believe that lol. On the tease i passed as proficient, so is there slight hope for me or will i be vettig a depressing letter in June? ;/ lastly does anyone know about Union County College nursing? because if i dont get into bloomfield's i will most likely transfer there. oh i also shadowed nurses at UMDNJ and at a physical therapy office before starting my FALL 2013 semester :)

Some programs will take you with that GPA, but usually it will be programs that have a points system for the sciences, GPA, and Teas score. Don't give up. If you can, retake the classes that you did not get an A in. ALso, you don't have to only apply to the nursing school at the college you currently attend. Apply everywhere you would consider going to expand your possibilities. Also look at what the admission requirements are, not just the pre req requirements. Many colleges have pre req GPA requirements for entrance, but as for competitive admission they will only look at certain sciences. Sit down with nursing advisors of any college you are interested in and ask them point blank what your chances are and what you can do to better them.

Have you looked at how these school pick their candidates? Some school go off of a lottery system, so everyone that qualifies is in the pot with an equal chance with everyone else. Like mrsboots87 said, apply EVERYWHERE you'll consider attending. I applied to 10 schools my first cycle (and was accepted to 2).

Also, figure out WHY you're not getting top notch grades in these classes so you can improve. You'll need excellent time management and study skills to survive nursing school, and now is the time to work out the kinks. Are you taking too many classes at a time and working? Are you having a hard time focusing when you should be studying? What are you doing when you study that keeps you from getting the material down? Are you turning in things late? What's the hold up? Assess the situation, and make a plan.

Yes, whether it is a pointless class or not, you need to do well in all classes. Nursing schools want to see how much effort you put into grades. I would look at differing programs and their requirements. We have no idea what the competition is at your school.
