I feel so pressured about this whole school thing!!! I found out yesterday that I was on the alternate list for a community college LPN program here; however, they will not inform me where I am on the list!!!! And I am trying to be a nurse soon.. Then the college I attend now does not have a spring (ADN) program so IF I'm accepted I can't start school (nursing) until NEXT fall... I get so mad with my nursing "friends" because they think it's funny I'm going through this, if I ask them something they've either "forgot" or will talk with me later! It's almost like they don't want me to be where they are!!! I don't know how to feel at this point *sigh... Say something anything please... Anyone? Also what do you think I should call and tell the community college Nursing program to get them to see I really want this, or do you not think its a so good idea to call them?.. They wont tell me where I am on the list and they only accepted 15 per year...

Sorry you're feeling so much stress - and you haven't even gotten into a program yet.

I don't think it would be beneficial for you to 'campaign' by contacting the admissions people. Admission decisions are based on objective criteria, so your emotional pleading wouldn't help at all. In fact, it might just aggravate them. Then, if you are admitted you would already be categorized a 'needy' or 'troublemaker'. You don't want that.

I'm sorry about how you're feeling, I understand your frustration. And more importantly, I am sorry that your friends who are in nursing aren't being very supportive. In my opinion, I would wait to get into the ADN program. Where I live LPN's are pretty much only hired into nursing homes. Yes, you may have to wait a bit for the ADN program, but becoming an RN will give you more job opportunities and a greater arena for advancement: management, certain specialties, etc. Have you ever considered getting certified as a CNA in the meantime? This way you gain experience (which helps you get into the program), and you will have your foot in the door somewhere for when you graduate nursing school. Just something for you to think about. I hope you get to feeling better about all this school stuff and please don't let it get you down...You WILL get there.

I'm with HouTx on this one: don't call. Telling them how much you want this doesn't make it more likely they'll think "hey, s/he REALLY wants it, time to move this applicant up the list".....just doesn't work that way. You don't want to do anything to annoy them, trust me.

It's going to make you crazy, and it's far more stressful than is reasonable, but it's what you're stuck with for the time being. Sit tight, see where it goes. I'll send out positive vibes :)

I agree, don't call. It can only make a bad impression, and nursing is a very small world.

One option is to keep applying to the ADN program, even if you're in the LPN program. People have done it, and you never know, you may get in. It's worth a go, ya know?

I hope you get good news soon! I can only imagine the nailbiting with the alternate list and not knowing where you are on it!!

Thank you all for your thoughts, and I have found a Spring ADN program at a college about 45min away from my home so I am praying that I can get into that program.. I didn't call the nursing school, I just said its all in God's hands now... thanks for listening :yes:
