Hello all,

I've been looking at some direct entry MSN programs to apply to in a year if I don't get the school of my choice. Some of them are a bit misleading--at first, I thought that many programs took 15 mos, but that just until NCLEX.

On average, how long does it take to do a direct entry MSN program full-time and achieve your master's?

My program is 15 months from start to finish. (May-August)

It is a direct entry MN, Master of Nursing.

I'm in a direct entry program for clinical nurse leadership. The entire program lasts two years, but we'll be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN after 18 months.

I think some of the discrepancies you may find are with regards to the type of program you're looking at. Generalist programs (such as mine) tend to be shorter while NP/CNM/CNS programs tend to take up to three years. Hope this helps!

You will get more replies if this thread was moved into the Graduate Student Nurse Forum, most of the direct-entry threads are listed under that category and many applicants view them daily. FYI.

Also, UCLA's MECN program is 21 months (6 quarters and one summer session in the middle).

I'm the same as Sunnyjohn. I start the MN program in May and finish 15 months later in August. Granted, there's a list of about 8 pre-reqs before you can start, but the pre-reqs are standard to most programs.

Every program is different. My program is different. It consists of 15months of RN education and then we sit for the NCLEX. Then that is followed by 2-5 years of MSN education, depending on how part or full time you want to go. I will probably go part time in the begining, so I think it will take me from start to finish 4 years
