Retake Pre-Req's- waste of money?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

So my ADN program computes your GPA from 6 courses. Rank is based on:

25% A&P 1 Grade

25% TEAS Score

50% GPA from six courses.

I have a 3.29 from the six. My B-'s are in Math and English. I have a B in A&P 1.

Is it waste of money to retake these? Should I hope for random selection? Is it better to just retake A&P 1 or all 3? I just want to get in!!!

I notice your in CT, what school are you applying for?

Specializes in NICU.

you need to look at how each would affect your grade. Each of the 6 "other" courses is only 8% of the ranking, so repeating math and english would affect the ranking of 16%. Retaking A&P 1 or Teas has a 25% affect on the ranking. Cost-wise repeating A&P 1 is cost-effective (25% for 1 class versus 16% for 2 classes). How is the TEAS score computed for the 25%? If you retook that, would that improve your ranking much?

TRCC, you?

Thank you for that info! I got a 68% on the TEAS. I could retake that as well.

If I were you, I would definitely retake A&P and the TEAS. I'm applying at NCC this year. A girl in my class is retaking A&P right now, she applied last year with a 3.5 GPA, B in A&P and a 75 on the TEAS and didn't make it in. An A in A&P would give you a much better shot and since it's 4 credits it will help out your GPA too.

Also, have you taken Sociology, Lifespan, Psych, or your Humanities class yet? Those also count in your nursing GPA since they're part of the program (even though they're not pre reqs) That could be another way to get that GPA up.

I think I may do that if I don't get in this round. I was waitlisted at 84 this year. I think if I get waitlisted again this time, I will. Ugh, hate to think of doing that cat again, lol.

Yes, I have taken all. Finishing Microbiology now. But, no they are not counted. It is Chemistry, Intro to Software Apps, English 101, Intermediate Algebra, and A&P 1-2. The rest are pre- req's, but not NURSING GPA. Wish they were: ).

MissCris, are you in program or applying now?

I am also applying to TRCC. There are 12 classes that make up the nursing GPA: Chemistry, English 101, Intermediate Algebra, A&P 1, Intro to Software Apps, and if you have taken any of the following they count those too: A&P 2, Microbiology, Psych, Lifespan, Sociology, Eng 102, and Humanties.

There is a GPA calculator at the bottom of the nursing admissions page that has them all listed.

It says what is counted in page 3-5 I believe towards the nursing GPA. It used to be all, but they changed in for the 2013-2014 year. Also, when/ if you did fill out the application, it only asked you for those classes?
