Retake Pre-Req's- waste of money?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

So my ADN program computes your GPA from 6 courses. Rank is based on:

25% A&P 1 Grade

25% TEAS Score

50% GPA from six courses.

I have a 3.29 from the six. My B-'s are in Math and English. I have a B in A&P 1.

Is it waste of money to retake these? Should I hope for random selection? Is it better to just retake A&P 1 or all 3? I just want to get in!!!

According to the nursing packet, "Nursing GPA is based only on the college courses with grades that meet the nursing admission and nursing program curriculum requirements". That would be 12 classes. Why would they include all of those classes in the GPA calculator if they weren't needed?

The application asks for the grades of the classes that need to be completed to be able to apply. They pull the rest of the grades off your transcripts.

Have you been to one of the nursing program information sessions? They explain the process of how to compute your GPA.

Yes, years ago. Okay, then I am totally wrong. I apologize! ! Thank you for clarifying. I guess I should get my butt to one of those sessions, but they're always on my day off. So it is all. So then I understood application wrong. Crapt. I'm in micro now and concerned that might bring it down: (

Yes, I have taken all. Finishing Microbiology now. But, no they are not counted. It is Chemistry, Intro to Software Apps, English 101, Intermediate Algebra, and A&P 1-2. The rest are pre- req's, but not NURSING GPA. Wish they were: ).

That's interesting...when I spoke to the nursing advisor a few months ago she said they were counted. It also says in the nursing info packet "The Nursing GPA is calculated by the Admissions Office at the College of First Choice. Nursing GPA is based only on the college courses with grades that meet the nursing admission and nursing program curriculum requirements." That makes it sound like any class that's part of the curriculum should count. Kind of misleading if that's not the case. I'm not in the program yet, I'm applying for 2014.

Sorry, I didn't bother reading page 2 of the comments before I replied to you haha. I think I might write the advisor again just to clarify. I can never find this GPA calculator everyone talks about either!

Rather than spend the time retaking coursework consider other options like respiratory therapy or ultra sound tech/ sonagrapher! Some colleges average the two grades anyway so it doesn't do that much good to retake something. If you are serious about nursing then you do what is needed to get really good grades, studying a lot and reading supplemental material if needed to get a better grade. I don't know your personal situation, but many younger people are enjoying their first bout of freedom and spending more time socializing than studying which can limit your future options since college has become so competitive over a limited amount of available slots! Of course many people are struggling because they either have family obligations or our working full time and going to school. But I don't think retaking the class is worth the money and you don't even know if you will do much better than the last time! If you are serious about nursing you made need to look at other colleges that will accept you with your current GPA. But if these are private, expect it to cost a fortune!
