Pre reqs in texas

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Okay, so I am currently attending a CC and I have taken mostly all my pre reqs.. Except my sciences & stats & a technical writing class. I actually took A&PI twice but I had to drop due to personal issues.. I took Micro and was 2 points away from a C.. I have also had to retake a Psych class because I had a C in it. I spoke with an advisor at UTA, and she told me to retake my A&P & make an A, as well as all my other sciences to get as close to a 4.0 as possible. She also said to make good grades in the rest of my pre reqs to bring my overall GPA up..

i am just wondering if anyone else is in maybe a similar boat as me with having to retake classes.. I am 21 years old and I'm looking at 2.5 more years until I have my BSN.. I want to be a Nurse, and I know that but do any of y'all think I am doing bad? As far as my grades so far, or should I just change my major to something else in the health care field. I just got a job at a childrens hospital, and it makes me so excited to be a nurse but I get discouraged for having to retake classes because when I started school I had no clue what I wanted to do so I didn't care to much about my grades.. But I would like to hear other thoughts, if I am the only one going through this.

Thanks

I was in this spot when I spoke with an advisor at UTA, except I hadn't taken any A&P and I was missing a lot of courses.

She (thankfully) advised me to think about going through community college and doing the RN-BSN once I finish there because of my child, schedule, and GPA I had. UTA is VERY VERY competitive and unless you have darn near a 4.0 it's hard to get in.

So - here I am with one semester left till I can take my NCLEX and fully plan to do UTAs RN-BSN program and I owe ZERO dollars as far as school and loans go so far :)

Now THAT makes me happy.

There are a lot of nursing programs around this area, maybe think about other routes to achieve the same goal?

No you are not the only one. This is why I advise many seniors in high school to do well their freshman year at college and not screw around. You may have very well screwed yourself out of nursing school. It's very competitive. You will need to retake some classes. I don't agree with retakes. My opinion is I worked hard for my A's. Why should someone get to repeat the same material several times to get their A A's? Your poor study habits should not affect me.
