Pre-Reqs are different everywhere- but what are yours?

At the ADN program I'm planning on enrolling for 06/07, and am taking pre-reqs now for, we have the following pre-reqs.

A/P I

Intro to Psyc

A/P II

Microbiology

College Comp I

English Elective

Humanities/Fine Arts/Foregin Language Elective

It amounts to 21 credit hours of electives.

I have enrolled in A/P I and Psyc for the fall, will take A/P II, english, and a fine arts in the spring, then college comp, and micro in the summer. To be done for hopefull acceptance in fall of 06 into the adn program.

What do you all have to take?

I have to take-

Bio 1

College Comp 1 & 2

Intro to healthcare

CPR for the medical professional

I think its 29 credits all together for the pre req's. There are also several Co-req's that I will be taking before actually starting my ADN program (psych, micro, etc, etc...

The ADN program at my local cc requires

A&P 1

A&P 2

Psyche (this is a new pre-req requirement)

Computer Literacy

PLUS a minimum of 11 general ed/support classes from these choices (All will need to be taken eventually)

Comp 1

Intro to Speech Communications

Statistics

Humanaities/Fine Arts

Ethics

Microbiology

I guess that's a minimum of 22 credits plus a computer class.

All of those are called co-reqs here. We take them IN nursing school at the same time as all our other nsg courses.

Why you need them as pre-reqs ....I'll never know !

I have a AS in liberal arts, so that took care of my English, History, Psych (General & Developmental), and all of my electives. Since I'm enrolled in a BSN program, I have to finish a few classes before I can start my clinicals.

A&P I (took) and II

Intro to Chem (took) and Intro to Organic Chem

Computer Applications (currently taking)

Philosophy

Micro

Patho

Statistics

After them, I have to take (along with my clinicals):

Nutrition

Medical Ethics

Pharmocology

And probably a couple more that I'm forgetting. Lots of fun classes. UGH!!

My program did this differently. We needed our grade 12 biology and chemistry and we had to pass the entrance exam. Then we were accepted into the nursing program.Once we were in the program we took psych, sociology, business communications,health and safety in the workplace, A&P I & II,development of professional self and math. These are not considered prereqs,just part of the nursing program.

Thank GOSH! I thought I was the only one here. Is Ontario the only place in the world that does it this way or what? It makes no sense to me to take these as pre-reqs. What's left to take in nsg school if they're done before classes? What's the tuition for? Some are paying through their teeth too. I'm taking Pharm and Stats next semester. Can't wait. :rolleyes:

I thought the same thing Z. What is left after all the prereqs? I couldn't imagine doing all that work and not getting in after all.These are the first half of our program at least. Are you in an RN program? I am taking my RPN at Georgian part time but will bridge to my BscN later. Another thing we never had was a waiting list. The part time program was LOOKING for people so it could run. Things are so different here. Best of luck to you. We are starting pharm this week and our labs for injections, IVs and caths. :uhoh3:

Let me rephrase that- they are part of the nursing program, however with the tight admissions- they end up being pre-reqs. The more you have done, and the higher GPA on them, the better your chances of getting admitted into the nursing program

:) I'm in the RN program and we didn't have a wait list either. We had many people apply to our University program and not all got in of course but there isn't a wait list. You just reapply the following year. The college program has a wait list though. Funny to hear your school was trawling for students. :chuckle

Hey! You start Pharm this week right? Could you tell me the name of your textbook and the author,,edition bla bla bla so I can get a jump start for September? I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

So you need to apply seperately to all these courses at the Uni or college and then apply to NSG school? So you're actually paying tuition for all these but no guarentee of getting into the actual nsg program?

BUT they can be CO-REQS (Meaning you can take them at the same time) if you get accepted with a great GPA?

I want to get this straight once in for all. :)
