Pre-Nursing Students for Military Spouse

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Where to start!

I like to keep things short and sweet. In this case it will be short but not too sweet. I am a military spouse that is due to move soon, however, I don't have a clue where. I am almost done with my prerequisites and I feel like I am in a stand still. My question is: How hard is it to transfer pre-reqs for military spouses? IF, we received orders overseas (ex.Germany) would it be hard for me to continue nursing? and is EduKan a decent program for Pre-Nursing students to completed their science courses?

I am really determine to get my nursing degree but fear many set backs.

I wish every nursing student the best. This is a long journey.

Thanks for any advance!

You are right to be concerned -- and smart to plan ahead.

I am not associated with the military in any way, but have worked with many military spouses. Be prepared to live apart from your husband for a brief time or two if necessary to complete a nursing program. While it is often possible to get your pre-req credits accepted by a nursing program, it is unusual for actual nursing courses to transfer from one nursing program to another. You may have to "stay behind" for your final semester or two while you husband moves on to his next duty station.

Keep that possibility in mind if you are planning to have kids, as you choose your housing, etc. It's not always necessary, but sometimes it is. I have known people who have "stayed behind" to finish a program ... and also people who "went ahead" to the next location to start school prior to her husband's actual move to that city.

We have childern already, ages 10 and 8. At this time, since I know that we are due to leave. I would like to wait until we get to our next base to find a nursing program. That way, I will have 4 years to complete a program without having to move or have my family leave me behind. My concerns are where our next duty station may be? how long the waiting list might be? and will my credits transfer without a problem? To be all honest, I am venting more than anything. I understand their is no solid answer. I wish their wasn't so many IF's when it came to nursing. I feel stuck!:banghead:

Thanks for the insight.

I am a military wife too and we will most likely be moving next October. I am two semesters (technically one semester and one class away) from having my pre-requisites done. I am currently taking my classes in Colorado and have already looking into a few possibilities (Bragg for example) as to where my credits could transfer. Did your husband fill out places he would like to go? My husband put down his top three but again I am sure you know that can still mean any where. I have found though that there are options stateside --- Bragg has two different options that would accept all of my credits to move into their nursing program. I would suggest talking with an advisor at where you are currently taking classes and they should be able to tell you if your classes will transfer if you know where you are going. I also feel "stuck" because I would love to just stay in Colorado and move right into their nursing program after all of my pre-reqs are done! Hang in there you are not alone :nailbiting:
