Pre-Nursing Hunter College

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi everyone!

I am wondering is there anybody out there that is in the same boat as me?

I was accepted this month into Hunter College in NYC as a pre-nursing student for their accelerated BSN program. I just signed up for a transfer orientation in Jan to find out what classes I need to take. I am so excited and nervous. I really hope I get into their accelerated nursing program. :bowingpur :)

I am studying for my Micro final right now at a local community college which is taking up my life but after that is over I will start studying for the NLN pre entrance exam. I am so nervous because Hunter calculates your GPA and NLN exam grade and that is how they determine if you get into the program or not. So---- I have to do really well on the NLN pre entrance exam and I am not the best when it comes to math no matter how easy it is! :uhoh3:

Is anyone else going through the same thing?

Hey Christina! I am not in the same boat as you-a little bit up ahead! I am currently in the actual nursing program at Hunter. Let me tell you it is VERY tough! Do you have all of your other prerequisites fulfilled? How is your GPA? Study really hard for the NLN especially out of that little red book that they sell. Good luck!

hi no thanku!

My undergrad gpa was a 3.2.... but I am wondering if they will factor in my GPA from my prereqs that I took also. I know I have all of the science prereqs and the developmental psych and all of that.. However, what I am worried about is all of the different types of liberal arts requirements they have. I am going to their transfer orientation Jan 3rd so I am hoping I will get that all cleared up.

Are you in the accelerated BSN? When did you start? If you don't mind telling me what your GPA was, how far in advance you studied for the NLN pre entrace exam etc. When did you hear back on the admissions decision? I have so many questions :)

Ask any questions you want! I had a lot of questions when I was in the process of applying and I wish I had someone to answer them! I am not in the accelerated program, I am in the generic program. I applied with a 3.6 GPA and I had an NLN score of 133. I studied on and off for 3-4 months but I really cramed down in the last week before the exam. I lived in that NLN book for the entire week and it really helped. Are you planning on applying to the generic or accelerated program?

i am applying to the accelerated program because i already have a bachelor's :) how long is the generic, 4 years?

I just finished the NLN, scored 134

verbal: 41/60

Math: 34/40

science: 46/60

GPA is around 3.5 (havent fully calculated) it.

The avg last year was 140 and i'm super nervous. I really need to get in. I planned around everything, or else i'll have to drop a bunch of loop to apply for NYU or something which is 50k I believe?

(applying for the accelerated)

Hi Manhattanite!

Quick question for you about NLN for Hunter. I took it yesterday too! I'm relieved it's over--I bet you are too! Is the score they use the composite score or is it the raw score added up, meaning the number we got right in each section added up to one number? Let me know if you know. Good luck! Hope we both get it~!

What did you get? It might be which ever is higher

my composite score was 143

Raw was 130

Verbal 48

Math 38

Science 44

My GPA is 4.00

I think they use the raw score so I'm freaking out bc the advisor said to try to get a 140. I hope you are right and it's the composite.

Should be fine. Did u finish all the pre-reqs? You're doing the generic or accelerated? I emailed her and at first she said it's out of 165. After the test I copied and pasted my score and asked her if she meant 140 ( the avg last year) out of 160 and she said my score is 134 (not the raw score). Sometimes the raw is higher than the composite for some reason, so I guess whichever was higher.

I see you're online like me, night owl ;)

Sweet! I thought it was the raw score. I'm glad its the composite!

I finished all pre-reqs except for microbiology which I'm taking now at

Hunter. I applied for the generic program though I already have a bachelors... Less risk!

I'm super nervous as IReally don't want to break the bank for private school.

Goooood luck! :-)

I thought the generic was harder to get into? More ppl apply
