A&P and Micro at the same time?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Ok I have a possible problem. I am current finishing the prereqs for my ADN program and I'm not sure what I shoud do. The admission to the nursing program is based on a point system which mainly depends on what grades you get in A&P I and II and Microbiology. Right now I am taking A&P I and Im shooting for an A to get the highest amount of points. In the srping Im taking A&P II ,obviously, and I was planning on taking Microbiology in the summer. But the application deadline for admission in the nursing program in the fall is at the end of spring :uhoh3:. And if I wait till after summer to apply for the nursing program I'll have to wait til spring 2012 to start! So to finally get to my question: Would it be to hard to take A&P II and Microbiology at the same time? Or should I just take them in seperate semesters and wait it out til spring for admission to the nursing program?

If you are not working a full time job, I say go for it. You will have to stay focused though. I just finished AP2 and it was so much better than AP1. The only thing is like someone else said is that its to two labs involved.

Good Luck! :)

Well, I'm taking A&P I and Micro right now. I will let you know how it works out. And wouldn't you know it I ended up with the hardest of 3 teachers for A&P too? Everyone says that even though she is hard, students who have her learn and retain the most and it helps them out in nursing classes and they end up being better nurses in the long run though.

My school has several entry options and one of them is to have a Bachelors Degree in a science field, which I have already. We also fill out applications for the ADN program and it is based on a points system. I have decided NOT to apply or start into the actual nursing program classes until I am finished with both A&P courses and Micro, even though they would let me if I had enough points to get in. But, our applications have to be turned in in February 2011 to get into the Fall 2011 nursing classes. By taking A&P I and Micro together now, I will be finished with them and get the points so that hopefully I can get into the Fall 2011 nursing classes.

Those are the only 2 classes I am taking right now, but I also work part-time and have children in 5K and 2nd grade that I have to pick up at 2:30 every day. Basically, I go to class/ lab and work while the kids are at school and then we do their homework, have a few family hours and eat dinner together, and when they go to bed (at 7:30 or 8:00) I start studying. My husband works nights, so he isn't here as a distraction either and that helps too. I am very modivated to get A's in both of them, the higher the grade, the more points you get on your application.

RCF-As a student in the ADN program, I have also taken both of those classes. And I took them together. It is completely doable. Its not as bad as you might think. Hopefully you have some really good instructors. And seeing how you are aming for an "A", I am sure you will do just fine. Good luck.

Since my school doesn't have A&P1 or A&P2, its more of anatomy then physio and micro.

I am taking physio and micro together this coming spring (do anatomy in winter) and I am good at science so I feel confident, but if aren't a science person...I would take them separate semesters...unless you absolutely have to...

I took A&P 1 and Micro this summer (3 days/wk, 9 wks) after returning for my second degree (graduated in '05).

While it is not the easiest thing to do, if you have no choice then you just do it. I was stressed before it even started! What if I fail, i haven't done this in 5 yrs and i have 2 hard classes, etc...Basically, my husband layed it down and explained I didn't have a choice, I HAD to do it.

And guess what?! I made 2 A's!!!!

So, if this is what you really want and you have to then do it! If not, then wait.

I took A&P 1 and micro together, along with english. In the summer! Was a very stressful busy busy busy 8 weeks, but got As in both A&P and micro, b in english. From what I heard, 1 is usually more the memorising, while 2 is a lot more conseptual, and fewer chapters to cover in the class, so from what I heard 1 is usually the more difficult. It is completely doable, but only you know how you are. I tend to be good with sciences, learn quickly, and am a tactile learner, so any class with a lab is heaven to me. The worst part for me was the fast pace of summer session, but I had to get them all done during summer to apply for the spring session i want in. If you struggle with science type courses, then it may be better to take them one at a time. but if you tend to be ok with sciences, you may be just fine.
