A&P II with Micro...has anyone done it??

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

The only 2 pre-reqs I need to complete is A&P II and Micro but of course people do not recommend that you take them together. I want to know has anyone taken them together and received a passing grade (A or B). If I take one now and one later, I run the risk of having to start my nursing courses in Spring 2015 instead of Fall 2014 so it is very tempting to take them both together.

Totally doable! Did it last spring and ended up with an A in a&p 2 and a B in micro. Lots of work but if you manage your time, you can totally do it!

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. I'm going to go for it!

I did, and got As in both classes. I did it for the same reason you did - wanted to apply to the program sooner rather than later. I'm glad I did it the way I did and honestly didn't think it was that difficult.

Thanks for your response. It's a relief to finally hear someone say it wasn't that difficult for them. I really don't want to wait until 2015 to apply so this is my only option. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was thinking this way. I feel good about this decision now.

I'm not much of a science person, I attended a large competitive public university and took anatomy, physiology, and microbiology all at the same time (12 creds for the 3 courses together). I got B, B, C+ -- would have had a B in the third class but I forgot about an online quiz (never forget about those online quizzes!). Thankfully, I had already gained acceptance into nursing school and was just finishing out the last prerequisites.

I think it depends how fascinated you are by the human body/microbes. If you're super fascinated and won't get burnt out taking that much at once, you will be fine. If you aren't, and you don't have the best study skills, it might not be a good idea. Best of luck to you!

Specializes in ICU.

I am totally fascinated in micro!!! I absolutely love it. My professor and her husband have traveled all over the world studying the different microbes and bacteria. The stories of their lives are awesome. I could sit there all day and listen to her. Today we did throat swabs and are letting them incubate in blood all night and will look at them tomorrow. We have done urine samples, and our own saliva. This is the most fascinating class I ever had.

I've done it a semester ago and got an A in both classes. Its very difficult but it can be done. Good luck.

Anything is possible...I took micro with bio, nutrition and 2 other classes & got all As and I have a family. I worked 16 hours a week as well. Combining any sciences will be difficult but doable! In taking 3 classes this semester along with chem and A&P II and I have As in both sciences.

I can't say that I am super fascinated in science because that would be a lie. The only part I like in science is when it deals directly with patient care.

Now I would definitely be interested in that part of science. I just may like micro after all if I get to do throat swabs, urine cultures and such. I hope that I get an interesting teacher that makes me want to learn more because my A&P teacher sucked, which made the class worse.

Now I really believe that its doable. I'm married, with a 1 year old, I work 20 hours a week at the very least and I will be taking these classes. I'm starting to get excited about taking Micro, I still don't know how I feel about A&P 2 yet.

ANYBODY >>>> What types of things do you actually learn in A&P 2??

Specializes in ED.

Yup. Do-able.

In A&P II so far, we've been tested on blood, the endocrine system and blood vessels & the heart. Next week we're starting respiration. I think we also do urinary system & reproductive systems later on.
