Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I'm looking for an online BSN program. I don't have a previous bachelors nor am I an RN.

I have applied twice to UTA's online program. They waitlisted me and then didn't take me. Now they waitlisted me again and I'm nervous.

I just need something convent for a single mom with a fulltime job!

You may be looking for a unicorn... there's no such thing as a 100% online pre-licensure nursing program. There are components of nursing education that can only be accomplished by dealing with the real physical environment & clinical setting. Nursing education is called a lot of things, but I have never heard anyone describe it as "convenient". It is a very regimented process with a cumulative curriculum (step by step, with no shortcuts). The clinical practicum components are rigidly scheduled and tightly controlled.

Have you already completed all of your pre-requisite classes? If so, it may be worthwhile to have some conversations with nursing school admissions representatives to ensure that you have accurate information. For instance, unless you have a very flexible and low-demand job, it is probably not going to be possible to continue to work while you're taking clinical classes.

It's going to be really hard to learn all you can online, have time to practice skills and be competent enough to do them on patients, and then clock enough clinical hours to meet state mandates. You pretty much can't get a first time nursing degree online. There may be programs, but I'm sure they're not much more convenient than traditional programs.

I guess I forgot to mention I'm looking for a program that has lecture courses online. I definitely know and understand that schools want clinicals at a hospital.

I'm currently waitlisted for UTA's online program. All lectures are online and they do clinicals in the DFW area. I was previously waitlisted and they didn't take me that semester. This is the only program I have found that does lectures online. I've taken pharmacology and pathophysiology online and I did fine. Online classes don't bother me and I am still able to understand and hold onto most of the information that I learn.

I was just hoping there was another program similar to what UTA is doing. I work full-time as a CNA/PCT at UT Southwestern and I am a single mom to a 5 year old. I have a lot on my plate already so if I could at least take away the time of sitting in a lecture course then it would save me some hours in the week to make it through all of my responsibilities.

Why do you think you're being wait-listed? I'd figure that out before trying to find another school.

I had to google because I don't know what UTA is, but I assume you are in Texas right? has a pre-licensure program that sounds like what you are looking for, but it requires you to have all of your generals completed first. I haven't heard of any other online BSN programs for those without an RN before.

Single mom, full time job. Well, no accelerated program for you.

Stay away from for-profits ground or online.

Best bet: Commumity College. Take your prerequisites. (one at a time)

Pay your way without loans.

After that decide whether you want an ADN or BSN

If you get an ADN you'll be able to work as an RN.

Then get a job that has tuition reimbursement and let them pay for your BSN.

Take this one careful step at a time and do this as cheaply as possible.

Those in a desperate hurry, get screwed.

If you go the way I outlined, it's still a lot of work but at least you'll get to where you want to be with dilgence and discipline and you won't be totally stressed out.

By the way, the online thing even though sounds convenient will make you feel like you're home schooling yourself.

That's for people who are already ADNs who want to obtain a BSN; of course through work. All others not so inclined for the most part don't do well; especially if it's your first crack at academia.
