On-line classes

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi everyone! Is anyone taking any of their pre-requisite classes online? If so, are they easier or harder? I prefer face to face classroom instruction but I'm just curious about online classes. Thanks for any input!! 😄

I've taken all but a few classes online. I took A&P lecture in person but the labs online, other than that all my prereqs but 1 or 2 have been online. Sometimes I'm like eh this is great and sometimes I'm like dear lord why did I take this effing class online. I've manage it though and have a 4.0 gpa. I have two little ones so it made that part of it easier. I REALLY like Kahn Acadamy. It's really great online videos on tons of subjects and it's free. You can do it, I'm glad that I was able to.

I have a seven year old at home myself. Like I said I'm just starting out. Maybe I'll give it a try. Who knows I might like it.? Thanks for the input.

I take at least 1 online class a semester. I love it for those prerequisites that I just want to get out of the way. However, the school I'm trying to get into will not accept online science classes so watch out for that. I am glad I saw that early so I didn't waste my money and time.

I am taking my first online class this semester for an Intro to Sociology course. It's pretty straight forward, a test every week (easy stuff, it took me like 1/2 an hour to complete) and a discussion board assignment each week. We also have to complete a group project, yuck, but we haven't got the DL on that yet.

Specializes in mental health / psychiatic nursing.

I took my psychology and nutrition pre-reqs completely online. I also took hybrid statistics and chemistry (lecture online, quizzes/tests/labs in-person). I could have taken my other science pre-reqs hybrid as well, but feel that I learn much better in person for science classes.

I've taken quite a few online. This semester I'm taking a self paced intro to sociology, I completed all my quizzes, midterm, final and all discussion boards in 2 weeks. I'm also taking Eng comp 2 online and this one isn't self paced and has a whole bunch of assignment but still manageable. AP 1 and Chem I'm taking on campus.

I prefer face to face but love the convenience of online classes. Only thing I don't care for are discussions especially when I have to respond to more than 2 people. í ½í¹ƒ

I took Psych and Medical Terminology online. I don't think they're any easier or harder, just different. Just keep up with your weekly assignments (if it's paced) and you'll be fine. Very convenient to be able to do the "work" at hours that are good for you, and no wasting time commuting to and from campus!

I live only five minutes away from my campus. I actually prefer face to face classroom instruction but I was thinking about trying a few of the easier classes online.

I took the non-science stuff online and felt I actually did better because the required discussions kept me engaged and those are courses you need to keep me engaged....

Give it a try and good luck to you!

This semester, I'm taking most of my pre-reqs online! My job is on weekdays from 7-5 (a clinic with set hours, no shifts), so of course that's during the time when almost every class is. I didn't want to leave this job until I get into nursing school. So, mostly online classes were a good solution.

Like you said, I also prefer classes where the teacher is right in front of me. I feel like it's just easier to learn that way, so I was worried that these online classes would be harder. So far, they aren't any harder at all! The only thing is that you really have to motivate yourself to get online and do the work because there isn't a teacher standing there watching and telling you to do it. I do feel like I can move at my own pace though, and I'm honestly way ahead right now. My teachers are very helpful when I do need something, and they give the option of visiting them on campus to get help face-to-face if needed.

The only class (except for my Bio lab) that I take at night right now is algebra. I have trouble learning math on my own, so I really need the teacher there teaching it to me. If you have a specific trouble subject like that, I suggest taking that one/those not online. But I seriously think you'll be fine taking anything else online, just remember to motivate yourself and get it done!

It all depends on the class. I've successfully taken psychology and nutrition online, but wasn't able to complete statistics online. It was far too difficult, so I dropped it and re-registered for it on-campus the next term. This fall I had no choice but to register for A&P 1 online. I've heard really good things about it, but am kind of nervous. I am bound and determined to work hard and be successful in that class!
