  1. I took the non-science stuff online and felt I actually did better because the required discussions kept me engaged and those are courses you need to keep me engaged.... Give it a try and good luck to you!
  2. My Aussie is currently hearing all about the nervous system. He may be bored but it is helpful to me. I love all the advice here..so much I never thought of but will be putting into practice.
  3. As a patient I would just want competent care regardless of your weight.
  4. Nope, 36 here and will be 39 when I finish. I was upset 14 years ago when I wanted to do this but couldn't for various reasons. Now I look back and I am so glad to be doing it now as I have changed so much and my work ethic has also improved with age. :)
  5. This happens to me too. I have a hard time fitting in because I am introverted while it seems like others become best friends in the first few minutes of class. When people finally get to know me, they usually always state they didn't realize I was so friendly as I was coming off snobby to them. I have no advice to add because you have received amazing advice already but I just wanted to send hugs to you and let you know you're not alone.

I have had read that book and it is phenomenal! I found the history quite fascinating and the night club story...oh my! Please post the other book...I need a good read right now.
  7. I would happily take a pay cut for my dream job. If I am going to spend over 2,000 hours a year working, I am going to do what makes me happy.
  8. At my college they had a sheet with all the requirements and points assigned along with extra points for things such as GPA, working CNA or LPN, etc. They were also willing to tell me the average score of those admitted and how many apply vs how many are accepted. I took all the above and used it for planning all my pre-reqs and trying to figure my odds. I would ask your school's nursing department about seeing if you could get some of that info..if anything at least the point sheet. Good luck to you!
  9. I know it has been a couple months since you asked but I wanted to try to offer you some info. While I can't speak much about the hospitals because I have not worked in them, I have lived in the area and Rochester is an amazing city to live in. It's beautiful, so much to do in and around the city, and affordable to live there. My sister works in the lab at U of R and she really likes it. They seem to have great benefits too.
  10. Your corporate compliance officer should have an anonymous reporting system. Plus coming from a "patient" it should make them sit up and pay attention.
  11. I have been here. Unfortunately something bad ended up happening to before I spoke up because I kept making excuses. Went to HR. It was kept completely confidential and he was fired. After he was gone all these other stories started coming out from other people too. I wish I had stood my ground earlier.
  12. I would say follow your own advice and be an RN for awhile. It took a lot of work to get there and there is so much to learn this first year. Soak up all you can, get your bearings, and then in a year sit back and see where you are at and if you still want to go the NP route so soon. In the meantime I would just keep the potential plans to yourself, especially as you never know what this year may give you and how that may change things.
  13. What an amazing journey! I am so, so happy for you and you are such an inspiration to me. OP, I hope you also follow your heart and I truly wish you the best!
  14. How about volunteering for medical mission work? With your dental assisting background I am sure there are ample opportunities.
