I am a single parent and on my last semester for pre-reqs for RN program. I am new to nursing. I am not sure if i should become a LVN first then take the bridge program to RN. Or just apply for the RN school. If any single parents in nursing school can help or give advice which one would be the best option. Since I need to continue to work at least part time to cover bills.

LVN programs are not generally easier than RN programs, only shorter. Regardless of which path you choose, working will be challenging, but doable. Make sure you have good childcare lined up and you manage your time and money well. Reduce your expenses as best you can, and get creative. Best of luck to you!

I am a mom of two and I definitely feel like getting my LPN first has set me back a bit time wise. It's definitely hard to work and try to gain that experience while still going to school for RN. The RNs where I work make about $10 more per hour than LPNs. If I had it to do over I would probably just go straight for RN

I am also a Single mother of two. I got my LVN first Since I needed a pay raise asap due to losing my husband. I'm currently doing a lvn to RN program and if I had the time to just take off school and do my rn I would but in my situation it was the best option. U need to do what's good for u. Honestly it only set me back like 6 months

Thank you for your response. I am not necessarily looking for something easier. I've heard many people in RN school are sometimes LVns become its flexible work schedule for them to work while in the bridge program.

^^^^Thats the exact reason why I'm going for my LVN first.

I'm going for my lvn first because I have a non competitive GPA and its a better route for me.
