Lawson state community college summer 2015

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I did some research on alabama schools and wanted to start a nursing program in the summer of 2015. I finished all of the required classes needed and took the teas. I got a 64 on the test and took some classes over to get all A's. I saw on the application that if you take some classes over within 48 months the points are cut in a half. Is that true?

Can someone please give me some advice on this issue.

Hey Addriannie, I believe this is still true. I currently attend Lawson and applying for the Summer. I still have to take my Teas. I plan on taking it in Feb. Where did you take your pre-reqs?

Hey aingram1169 I am from ga so I took my prerequisite at a technical college. Can you give me more information on the college?

I have had a really good experience so far. They have two campuses. One in Birmingham and the other in Bessemer. I have taken most of my classes at Bessemer but this is only because Bessemer is closer to me. At both locations, the Professors and staff are very helpful. The Bessemer location starts their nursing program in the Fall and it is evening classes. The Birmingham locations does Summer and Fall and it is day classes. This is for RN programs. The LPN program is offered at Bessemer in Summer and Fall and it is day classes. I believe they only accept between 35-40 each semester for both programs. Their NCLEX pass rate the last time I checked was in the high 90's and Lawson itself was in the top 50 of best Community Colleges in the U.S.

Wow... that isn't a lot of people. So they accept

Only about 40 students during the summer semester? Do you know the point ranges?

Can someone described Lawson State Birmingham campus nursing program rn semester by semester detailing what it was like and what you did and didn't like I'm a senior in h.s

Sorry Addriannie, been totally busy. Yes that is about the size they accept. And as far as the points I am not sure. I talked to the Nursing dept. last semester and I believe they said as far as the Teas test they like to see an average of 76% (don't quote me on this but I am pretty sure this was the number). I am nervous about starting in the Summer because the semester is so much shorter so they have to cram everything in. I have not heard from any recent students about the program but I have talked to a girl that graduated about a year ago and she said she liked it but some of the professors played favoritism. I plan on messaging a girl that I had Anatomy I and II with to see how it is going. She just finished her first semester so hopefully I can get some insight from her.

So they go by the teas test? I didn't do so wrll. I got a 64 on it. So there would be no chance for me. I guess.

They don't go strictly from the Teas test. She just told me that that is what they like to see. They take into account your sciences also. The max number you can get is 251, 11 of these points being from a class you can take to that gets you ready for nursing. I believe they don't have many apply for the Summer so that is an advantage.

Ok. That's great. I finished all of my course work and I have a 64 teas. I think my points are 186 0r 197 with the extra points. Thanks though.

Hi all, I am applying for the Summer and fall program for 2016 whichever comes first for me. I know that the deadline has passed for the Fall this month and wanted to know have any one applied this month?

Thank you

Hi, I am also applying for Summer 2016. I haven't taken my teas test yet though.
