Jobs for Recent Graduates - Varying Degrees

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Reading another post has me curious as to the type of jobs a person would be qualified for once graduating from nursing school????

Let's say.....

Student A has just graduated and is a RN with an ADN....

Student B is also an RN but with a BSN.....

Student C is a RN with an ADN and yet a Bachelor's in a different field (perhaps Business, Psychology, or something else that will relate)

and Student D has a Masters in Nursing, but has not had a job yet "as a nurse"

So they ALL have the same real-life experience working in a hospital (ie... NONE) other than clinicals in school.

Wouldn't they all be on the "same page" so to speak as far as where they will be in their first careers?

Will people with more degrees be qualified for "higher up" positions when they actually have no experience yet?

I guess I'm just wondering if there are supervisor nurses out there that could be our bosses that sit behind a desk all day & have never actually dealt with patients & their families, etc on a daily basis?

No, as far as I know, everyone starts out the same, as a staff nurse. All new graduates start out in the same positions, yet those with degrees have the oppurtunity to move up to a management position (with clinical experience). The pay grade may be slighty different but other than that everyone is on the same page when they are a new grad.

I mean, I just don't see how anyone without any begining clinical experience could supervise a unit without any hands on knowledge about what actually goes on and how to deal with certain situations! Even "Student D" would have to have some experience in a clinical setting before they can go into advanced practice! lol If I'm wrong someone let me know, but as far as I know, every typical student ypu listed would start out the same, nursing is not like other careers, you can't just train for a few weeks and move into a high position, it takes time and experience for you to actually know what your doing and how to direct others. We all have to start from somewhere.

Personally, right now I plan doing the ADN program, through a hospital partnered with a college in my area. This hospital will pay for my tuition, books, supplies, everything needed for my four semesters of nursing school, as long as I sign on to work for them for 30 months after I graduate, its a deal/deal! During that time, I plan on getting my bachelors and masters in that time and having them help pay for it. So by the time I finish with my degrees, I'll be able to have a management, administrative, or educational position. If you can go for those advanced degrees go for them, but just know we all start in the same boat. :p:p

How much experience is required before one can get a job as an NP (considering that they already have their MSN from an accelerated program)?

I am pretty sure you have to have atleast one year experience based on my knowledge of the schools around me.
