Is vocational school easier than college?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I know that it's so much quicker to get a nursing degree from a vocational school instead of a 'regular' college or university.

Do do employers really hire people who get degrees from these schools?

I would like to go to a vocational school for nursing because I feel like the prerequisite courses would be a lot easier and plus I wanna get my degree more quickly.

If you got your nursing education from a vocational school, how long was it? Did you have any problems getting hired afterwards? Where can you work?

Are you talking about an LPN program? As long as the proper accreditation is in place, you should be fine.

Are you talking about an RN program? And by 'vocational school' do you mean unaccredited, for-profit school? In which case run.

I am reminded of the quote from the classic movie A League of Their Own. "It's supposed to be hard. The 'hard' is what makes it good. If it was easy, everybody would do it." I think it applies here.

You don't want an 'easy' nursing education, you want a good one!

When you say "vocational school" are you referring to community college? Getting your ASN at a community college (a good one) is a good route to get your RN.

NCLEX is the great equalizer. Whether you went to a for-profit school, community college or university- everyone takes the same test (NCLEX). NCLEX is a tough test for those graduates that didn't have a school that prepared them for it. There are plenty of members on this site that went to a school that didn't prepare them to take the NCLEX and after 5-6 attempts the still haven't passed. There are others, like me, that went to a school that prepared them very well and passed NCLEX with the minimum number of questions. Nursing school is suppose to be tough, that is how they prepare you to be a competent nurse.
