Is a B in Anatomy the end of the world?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

It looks like I am going to end up with a really high B in anatomy and there's nothing I can do to bump it to an A even though I am so close. This is the first grade I'm getting that is not an A and I'm really disappointed that I'm losing my 4.0 GPA although I worked so hard in anatomy. I still have chemistry, micro, and physio left for my science prereqs. Is my margin of error much lower now that I am going to get a B in a science prereq? I basically have to get an A in those last 3 science classes to have a chance right? I've heard so many horror stories on how difficult and competitive it is to get into nursing programs in LA (LAVC, Pierce, etc).

That is completely dependent upon the program you're applying to. How does your school determine who gets in? Is it based on GPA? Is science pre-req GPA weighed more heavily? Do you have to take a TEAS test as well? How many people are applying to your program? If need be, can you retake a pre req without it hurting your chances of getting in?

I want to attend LAVC's ADN program. They use the Chancellor's Formula and their cut score is an 80. If you meet that score then you have to pass the TEAS V, only your first TEAS V score counts no retries. The formula is calculated from your overall gpa, science prereq gpa, english gpa, and prereq science repetitions. I should be able to make the cut score but I've read so much about how competitive GPAs in LA are like 3.8 and up.

SO if someone on a message board tells you "yes...it is the end of the world and you will never be a nurse" would you quit?

This is classic case of A student apparently lacking common sense. Even with a 4.0 there is a chance you won't get into nursing school. And even with a 3.0 there is a chance you will. Do the best you can and forget the "horror stories" about it being hard to get into school. I think that it is actually a GOOD story that it is difficult to get in. It is a life and death profession and not for non hackers. Perception is reality. Embrace the pain.
