IRSC to UMass?

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site considering I made an account so I could have assistance with this. I plan on getting my Associates of Science in Nursing at Indian River State College (IRSC). After I succeed in that goal I want to be able to transfer to University of Massachusetts to obtain my Bachelors. Do you know if I'll be able to transfer and have my credits properly transfered and what steps I should take to prepare for all of this?

Before you implement any of this plan you would be well-advised to call UMass to find out 1) if they even allow transfers, 2) if they do, what classes you will have to have completed and by what GPA, and 3) what they will charge you. I have no idea where Indian River is but I do know it's not part of the MA higher education system.

If you want to ask about an ADN-to-BSN course for RNs, that's different from a straight transfer. Speak to the nursing academic advising office at UMass to get all this clarified before you commit to any irrevocable course of action.

Generally speaking once you get an ADN degree there is no problem transferribg to a bsn program. The only thing is you may require additional pre/corequisite classes for applying for said bsn. But the criteria to apply is usually:

1. Valid rn license in the state youd like to go to school

2. Associates degree in nursing from an accredited school

Your best bet is to contact umass and see if theyll allow you to attend bsn classes while having a fl rn license. If not, I imagine thatd be your only/biggest hurdle.

If you get a FL RN license and move to MA, you can always apply to the BoN for a MA license. You'd have to be here anyway to go to UMass. :)
