I am Going to Die

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I am going to die if I don't get into nursing school.

I need to get into nursing school Badly, it is my calling.

I am 25 years old and I am having a quarterly crisis.

I just graduated from a community college in my area about a year ago, I Majored in Biology. At the beginning I didn't take my school seriously because I wasn't sure what exactly I wanted to do. I managed to graduate with a 3.0 average and made the dean list my last semester of college ( I know, I know, took me long enough). However, my G.P.A. average for the science courses is 2.9 I didn't want to go to nursing school because I didn't think I was smart enough, but I have been working in the medical field for about 4 years as a medical assistant (MA). I recently landed a job at one the hospitals as a MA and the pay is blah (22/hr--$42,000 annually). I do EKGS, vitals, and other administrative work.

It's been about a year since I graduated and since working at the hospital, now more than ever I want to be a nurse. I am still a little doubtful but my eagerness to become a nurse is increasing day by day. I recently applied to PACE but I didn't get in, not sure if its because of my grades or because I missed one of my transcript from a previous college I attended, OR because my personal statement was too personal. Also, I haven't taken any pre nursing school exams such as NLN and so on.

I would like to know which career path is best for me as far as getting into nursing school. I have most of the pre req., lots of experience, but I want to know should I do an accelerated program, associate program. I desperately want to be a nurse because I feel like its my calling but maybe I messed up in school and this may never happen.

Please offer any advise as to how do I increase my chances of getting in, which programs would should I look into. I already started studying to take the nursing pre entrance exams, in hope that it will make me more appealing when applying to school.

PLEASE HELP

First of all, nobody dies just because they do not get what they want. Yes, it sucks if something does not go our way, but such is the reality of life: sometimes it is best to rethink, regroup, and device a plan of action and follow through it. Since you already have a BA, the best option for you is to do ABSN. However, as you may already know, your GPA is very low so ABSN programs may not be for you. You can, however, go an ASN route, or LPN, and then do bridge programs once you graduate.

Your post says you graduated from community college. Accelerated BSN programs are designed for people who already have a bachelor's degree in another area, so you would not qualify. As for your grades, yes, a nursing school will look at your academic trends, so if you started out poor, but improved at the end, they will take that into account. You can address that in your essay. However, your science course GPA is troubling. I would advise you retake the ones that are nursing prereqs that you did poorly in.

Another thing you can do is "tone it down a bit." You mentioned that you thought that maybe your essay for PACE was a bit too personal. If it contained all the dramatic rhetoric of your original post, then perhaps it did hurt you. Admissions committees are looking for calm professionals. Learn to present yourself as a mature adult and can calmly deal with stressful situations without losing your cool.

Good luck to you. I hope you find a program that suits your needs.
