Hi all-I'm new

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

hey everyone. i've been lurking here for quite some time and i finally worked up the nerve to introduce myself.

after giving up on my dreams of becoming a nurse, i have an opportunity to go to school. i just had my youngest son-7 mnths ago-after having a difficult pregnancy complete with a cerclage, 25 weeks of bedrest and the terbutaline pump and just as recent my husband and i of 6 years are separated :(

i also have a 13 year old. so this going back to school is a bright spot in my life.

i'm a medical assistant by trade (yes i know-been reading the threads :p) and always just felt so unfulfilled. reading the threads on here, i get intimidated because of how hard the classes seem. i haven't been to school in years and only recieved my ged at 16. i'm still soooo excited, though i know that it will be hard work. i feel old now (im 30-i know that's not old but still) and feel like i'm running out of time and just want to start as soon as possible...

i'm thinking that i jumped the gun though, because i'm not even in school yet and purchased books on chemistry, microbiology, a&p, alegebra, and pre nursing exam. my plan (as unrealistic as it is) is to try my best to study and brush up so that when i go to take the entrance exam for school, i'll do exceedingly well and can avoid taking classes that don't count as credits :icon_roll

the hospital based school that i have my eyes on, says that if i have 3 of the pre-requsites that they require i could enter...so this summer i would like to start chemistry, nutrition, and english-is anyone else trying to pull off the impossible? any advice is welcome

I know where your coming from, really!

I am basically a single mother, only I am still married. My husband works full time + and is in school in the evenings. I have been in school for 7 years on and off, I have gotten my associates in medical office management, EMT-b and a lot of pre-req's for the nursing program. My girls are 7, almost 5 and 8 months. I am currently petitioning for admission to a nursing school for the fall of 2008. I won't know anything until sometime around April 1st.

Good luck!

oh wow! well god bless and good luck to you as well. i know you can do it and sounds as if you have lots of experience under your belt.

thank you for responding-it's nice to know i'm not completely out of the race :)

Welcome to allnurses.com. I have been on for over a year I think and have found this site a great place to ask questions and just have the needed support that you may not get from home. I am 35 years old and started taking classes at night (I have a full time day job) in 2005. I am applying for the ADN program at my college in February, and if accepted I will start the Nursing Program in the Fall of 08. I took Chemistry and Intro to Psych my first semester back (I graduated highschool in 1990 and took no college before that). It was tough, I'm not going to lie, but you'll find your groove. I started a study group with a couple of other students in my class for Chemistry so that helped. Just try to stay focused, definitely do note cards (you can find a lot of information about note cards on this site) and attend all of your classes so you don't fall behind. If you truely have the drive to make this happen, you can do it. You're priorities may have change a bit but I have faith in you! I wish you the best of luck, now get studying! :w00t:

welcome to all nurses we're glad you've decided to join us. :dncg:

Good morning,

I also just joined this morning and have been looking at this site for a while. I knew being a MA would not satisfy me, and get this I have been going to school off and on for 16 yrs. My daughter in now 16 and I have never given up on my dream to becoming a nurse. I am praying and claiming to be accepted into the program this fall. Keep your head and try to stay focused on your goal and I'm sure you will succeed.

i hear you! that's the same thing i've been doing lately-proclaiming it and trying to prepare as well. i wish you much luck-ure perseverance will definately help you. thank you for ure words.

thank you all for ure warm welcome and words of encouragement-gosh i hope i can win this race

i just became a member of this site as well. i really like the support that others give. the extra words of encourgement.

i will tell ya that reading your thread; i was reading exactly how i feel. i just turned 30 and i have 3 children. i have always dreamed of being a nurse since i did my very first career day at school. we had to choose what career we wanted to do when we grew up and research it and then give a report on what we would be doing, and how we saw ourselves in that carrer. ever since then i was hooked. i never graduated highschool until i was 27. i had gotten pregnant at age of 19 and then married my highschool sweetheart and stayed with him until i was 23 and met the love of my life after him and i seperated. my husband now is very encourging and supportive and without him i could not be where i am today. i finished highschool and that fall i started college. i just finished up my 4th semester in college and took my hesi to get into the nursing program. i am keepin my fingers crossed.

i just wanted to tell you that i know how you feel it can be very overwhelming and with us being 30 we do feel like time is running out. but, the difference for me is that when i was 20 i was not in a place where i would have put the time and effort into it. i would have spent all that money and wasted it because i was not ready for it back then. now it is our time to shine. we have waited a really long time to do this and it is our time. we can be more then just moms.

whew, that was theraputic for me. :)

anyways..... what i wanted to say before all my rambling was good luck!

congrats on ure hesi and getting into school! thanks for ure encouragement and for being 30-lol!;)

you are so right about if you were 20 what you would have done-i think of that all the time-i had been going through an emotional rollercoaster at 20 and am now sure more than ever that i would have ruined my career as a nurse and/or lost my license. god is good.:redpinkhe

i love that one sentence about how it's our time to shine and how long we waited-so very true. i really hope to see more of you and that in a couple years we'll be tossing a congrats to one another. good luck in school.

Thanks! I wish you all the luck in the world. We both have long roads ahead of us. We just have to remember when times get tough why were doing this. That we will get through it and accomplish our goals. It probably going to be crazy to say the least once we actually get into nursing school and start the clinicals but, we will hang on and push through.

Thanks for the reply back... It was great talking to ya. I hope that we can keep intouch through this site and keep each other posted.
