HELP! failed pre-reqs

So I just got my grades back and my nursing pre-req gpa isn't passing to get into the nursing school. I have a 2.78 and I need a 3.0. I'm not allowed to retake any of my classes because my highest grade was a C and you need a C- to be able to retake the class.

Since my gpa isn't high enough, I didn't get into the program. I'm heartbroken and sitting here holding in tears as I write this, but I have to accept that this is what happened.

What do I do now?

Well, if you're unable to retake your classes to change your grades at that school then retake them at another school, like a community college.

Retake them somewhere else. I would aim for As, bare minimum. Very few people get into nursing school with the minimum GPA these days.

The prerequisite courses are the foundation in nursing and everything builds on understanding the material learned in those courses. Is there a reason your grades were low? Family issues? Distractions?

If there is a reason, then I would say wait until the issue is out of the way before you head to another school. However, if you're not doing well in the required science courses because science just isn't your thing, I believe you should reevaluate your future in nursing.

Hmm re-take at another college and/or apply to wait-lists with lower minimum grades, like a 2.0 or 2.5. I don't think you can get into a merit-based program (or hybrid) with a 2.78... I have a hard time with merits with a 3.67 pre-req gpa :o

What newboy said. If you believe there is a valid reason as to why you didn't succeed, something external that can and will change, then wait for that change before going to another college and attempting the same coursework.

If there was nothing particular that caused a significant stress (divorce, job change, health issues with kids/family) then I really think you need to consider other options for your future. Remember, life intervenes constantly, and if it's not the same issues, there may well be others in the future.

It isn't just about going from school to school, retaking coursework until it makes the minimum entry requirement for nursing school. That's because once IN a nursing program, the curriculum should be expected to be more demanding than the pre-requisites, or at least on par. If you cannot successfully master the subjects required for entry.....you won't survive the nursing program itself. And that you get one shot at, typically, not multiple retakes.

Give it some serious thought, and go from there. Good luck!

Retake at another school and deal with other nursing programs. If you don't do that, you will be looking at another career.

Maybe you could start at a community college and take some more remedial type courses to build up the pre-requisites? It will add some time to your degree, but your foundation will be more solid.

I can't believe they won't allow a re-take. What school isn't HAPPY to take your money again?
