Feeling very discouraged about applying at the moment

Hi all,

I am a pre-nursing student (junior in college) who is in the process of applying to nursing school. However, I'm feeling a bit discouraged/stressed about it at the moment.

I am currently dealing with always worrying if all my application things will arrive prior to the deadline and if my grades are good enough to apply.

My gpa is 3.75 right now I believe. But my science gpa is probably 3.5.

I recently went to an advisor at one of my prospective nursing schools and she made it clear that they wanted above a 3.0 gpa on sciences courses and pointed out that I had B's on my transcript in anatomy and chemistry and that I should aim for A's. And this sort of discouraged me about being good enough for them.

I'm hoping this stress passes soon and that everything will hopefully work out for the best.

Anyone else have this feeling about applying?

Your overall GPA is excellent, plus a 3.5gpa in science pre-reqs is pretty good I suppose :). Have you taken the TEAS?

Are there any additonal factors that contribute towards your chances of getting in such as volunteer hours, recommendation letters, being bilingual, ect? Apply to as many nursing programs as possible, you might be surprised. I overall think you have an excellent chance though, I wouldn't stress out if I were you. :)

I didn't have a chance to take the TEAS so I just applied to schools that required the hesi. Yes, one of the schools required a reference letter so I'll have that. And also I've been trying to volunteer and such.

Thanks so much for calming me though! Nursing schools are so competitive. I just can't wait until everything is submitted and I"ll just have to wait for letters.

I feel the same way about the program I applied to. I have a 3.24 gpa, and most people have a better gpa then I do. I feel like if I get in then it's because my name came up randomly in the lottery portion of the admissions. But then I found out that my A&P grade and TEAS score was better than most students at my school. So I'm not as discouraged as I was before. But I'm still praying every night that I get in the program :saint:

Yeah I suppose all I can do is hope for the best. :) Yeah, I had good Hesi scores so hopefully that helps boost me a bit. :nailbiting: I just completed another application (the one for the Feb 1st). now I'm just waiting on verification and for a supplemental application to arrive in 5-ish weeks.

I just decided to list all the possible, best options and apply to each one of them. Hopefully, one of them is bound to accept me into the nursing program :D lol. My gpa is somewhere around 3.7, I've finished half my prerequisite courses, All the science courses I have taken are all A's. Its the statistics and the other mumbo jumbo courses required for the AA degree that got me, and I'm currently volunteering at a hospital.My options has been applying to the community college I'm currently at, USF, . If all else fails theres always technical. Nursing is a very competitive program and rigorous. The more well rounded, and higher the gpa you have..the better your chances of getting in the program. You never know until you try so get to applying :writing:. I wish you luck in your future endeavors.

Very true! You'll never know unless you try.

When do you all find out about the acceptance/rejection decision?

Also, what do you do for volunteering at the hospital? I've been recently trying to find something at a hospital as a volunteer that will help benefit as a pre-nursing student.

It really depends on the colleges. Some might take 2 weeks to a month. I wouldn't know since I haven't applied yet. And my volunteering at the hospital sucks lol. All I do is hand out water to patients, but it's still some kind of experience in the healthfield. And it feels good helping out the nurses and staff when they're packed with so much work. The little things help. It really depends on the hospital you look into but I would say go for it, you need to get your feet wet before you take a full dive.

Ah I see. Yeah, I might go and look if I can become a volunteer at a bigger hospital or at just different ones and see what kinds of patient contact volunteering things they have. The one I went to last time was pretty small, I think maximum 75 patients and all were much older-elderly patients with several complications.

Although I still have to do this on top of schoolwork so I'll have to plan it out. Chem 2 is kicking my butt at the moment!
