  1. Show confidence !! Sit up straight, smile , firm handshake ....and direct eye contact!! You got this .
  2. Hey here's a couple I can think of ! What made you choose this organization? How would you contribute to this floor? (Explain your strengths and skills you mastered in med surg to transition into cardiac nursing or the fact that you have patients on tele or that come in with various heart related illnesses with protocols in place......etc) They might ask you what is your weakness or tell us something about you that is not on your resume? Might ask what would you do situations when it comes to coworkers and patients Most importantly show them your willingness to learn and expand upon your knowledge and skills your thirst to continually challenge yourself They'll def ask you what will you see yourself doing in the next 5 years and or what is your goals. That's all I could think of for now. You can also sometimes google interview questions for that specific organization you're applying to and sometimes there's a couple of posts in Glassdoor that'll help give you some ideas. Good luck !! And I hope you get the job !!!!
  3. Thank you guys
  4. First of all forgive me for this. I have posted this topic under the first year licensure topic but realized I also wanted an experience nurses ear. I made a huge mistake a couple days ago during my shift. A patient of mine was finishing his second blood transfusion on my night shift. Around midnight I drew blood for an HandH level. Patients lab was stable. Here comes the mistake...I looked over discharging the patient for the night. I was so wrapped up in my patient assignments that I neglected to read up the provider order regarding the patients discharge. The day shift nurse has relayed to me about discharging the patient but I took it as discharge in the morning shift not soon after lab results :/. The order also was placed during day shift so it was buried under other orders from the provider.* My mistake was recognized in the morning and I profusely apologized with tears running down my cheek. I own up to my mistake and understand what action I need to take in order to not miss an order whether from day or night. The charge nurse reassured that she was just as responsible because she didnt pay attention to the charting to recognize the patient needed to be discharged. She repeatedly told me that she thought i was a wonderful nurse and that its ok Im new and will make more mistakes in the future. She told me i was too hypercritical of myself and have seen how great I am with patient care. The patient did not die on my shift, all my patients are alive, and the patients lab results werent avaulable until 2am.* However, I just cannot help but to feel horrible. Everyone is saying Im doing a good job but i dont believe it myself. So for this to happen, makes me start doubting myself. By the way this is my 7th day by myself off orientation. I just needed to vent, thanks to whomever is reading.

  6. Hi! I am literally in the same boat as you. It takes me literally an hour to finish at least 3 of my 5 patients charting. On a good day, I'm on time which is few and far in between. Just today it took me an hour to fully chart on everyone. I felt bad being the only night shift left behind charting--except for the night shift charge.Hey it can happen when you get an admission, transfer, all in one shift. I know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. We are new and this is definitely normal. I have had immense support from the staff and charge nurses which I'm grateful for. My charge nurses have relayed to me that if I was "great" they would be concerned..as that is not the normal for a new resident. Just the fact that you are safe right now is priority. Everything else will fall into place. All I can do is do my best and make sure my patients are still alive. Yes, I will miss some stuff that the day shift nurses may be annoyed about....but at the end of the day I'm still learning and my patient did not start going down or die on my shift. That's what's most important to me is my patient's safety. No matter how slow I may be with my med pass. I feel defeated as well and can't wait to be that nurse with 6 months under her belt and look back at this like wow I made it. I don't feel at all confident but I've received great feedback from my charge nurses. We are still learning..it takes a year to even feel remotely comfortable according to Pat Brenner. There will be tears shed and frustrations felt. But we will get through this sister. In no matter what way, shape, or form we will get through this. Treat yourself, go out in the fresh air, enjoy life when you're off. Then get right back in it ready to conquer our weaknesses one by one every shift. Think positive-I am-thats the only way I'm keeping sane :) Honestly I pride myself in thinking no matter what..I did my best.
  7. Thanks everyone for your suggestions !!:). I will definitely follow through.
  8. Hi everyone!! I am currently enrolled in an RN residency program and according to my schedule for two weeks I'll be shadowing on a med surgical floor. During these two weeks the units I'l be circulating around will make their decision regarding if they are wiling to hire me on that specific floor. We can not do any invasive procedures such as IV lines or Foley insertion. We can pass medications however nurse has to be at the bedside. We are literally joined at the hip with the nurse during shadowing before we start orientation. I wanted advice from nurses regarding how I can be the best shadower for the nurse on the floor. I don't want to step on any toes however, I care to make a good impression for possible hire on the floor. Any tips and suggestions?? I just feel minimized in what I can do during this shadowing experience as far as independence and performing nursing interventions. I know to ask questions, look interested, try to help in any way that I can.....Thank you in advance!!! Signed, Anxious Graduate Nurse
  9. Hey hun. Ok with UWORLD are you reading the questions and supplementing with content? Did you find that you were weak on content in the NCLEX or strategies? UWORLD is great with content review and sharpening your test taking skills. However, if it has not worked for you...maybe you should try Hurst or NCSBN for content and supplement it with the KAPLAN Qbank. Kaplan doesn't work for everyone as well as any of the other sources mentioned. Have you heard about Mark Klimek lectures they are nice too as well. If you search online you can find them on quizlet. You have to find your weakness and work on it. Make sure when you make a wrong answer you make a mental note as to WHY you made that choice. Apply the answer to the stem of the question--what are they really asking you?? NCLEX can be tricky in that way...an answer may be obvious but what are they asking you for plain and simple. Do not read into the question just go by what they give you do not add into it. Most of all if you come across something you don't know..don't get anxious sit down and think about it and make your best educated guess to apply to the question. Make sure you have your prioritization skills down on lock. Lacharity PDA is great with that. Give yourself 4-5 hours consistently a day to study and review your rationales with content supplementation. You gotta treat studying for the NCLEX like a full time job. I;ve had to call off and decline work just to study for NCLEX. Good luck to you and God is always on your side. Keep the faith and put in the work. Bless.
  10. Make sure you also try it 24 hours after too :). CONGRATS!!
  11. I put the wrong expiration and CC on two different codes. I tried the pop up 5 hours later and 24 hours later and got shut off 75 just like you. Since we got shut off at 75 thats a clear pass or a clear fail. SOOO I'm pretty sure you passed. It worked for me I;m sure it'll work for you :). CONGRATULATIONS. I know it doesn't seem believable until it's right infront of you. But trust you passed.
  12. This type of stuff can easily place a target on your back. If you are willing to do this -anonymously or not- be prepared for what's to come. Some students do have special needs where they have to test with a longer time frame. So the concept of testing at the same time will not work. The college has to accommodate for people who are at a disadvantage with their disability. At the end of the day they are going to have to take NCLEX to prove their competency. I wouldn't even worry about em.
  13. Is it content? Strategies? I've heard good things about the NCSBN five week course as well as HURST. How are your prioritization skills? Are you able to look at a question and critically think apply it to what the question is asking of you? For example a patient with an post op inguinal hernia who has nausea and vomiting would be higher than a patient with COPD with O2 at 88% because it's expected with the COPD but the inguinal hernia ...could be a possible complication. Or the patient who just had an AAA what would you do first apply 02 or maintain bedrest. What I'm saying is don't give up. Do you know of Mark Klimek...I found his lectures amazing in describing how to prioritize and more. NCLEX is about safety...what can you do as the nurse before you leave that patients room for good. Sit back and take time for yourself before you try again. I know things seem dreary right now but don't give up hope. Try reading your rationale and understanding WHY did you get that question wrong in the first place. While I was taking NCLEX I was constantly retrieving info from my rationales while I was answering questions or making an educated guess. Best of luck to you and I hope you find that study material that clicks. If UWORLD didn't work for you look for another source.
  14. Check twice. You can try it at leastt 4-5 hours after and 24 hours.
  15. Yay!! Be yourself and claim it. I did the same and I just accepted an offer with FL Hospital internship program. Just remember if it's meant to be it's meant to be. God has a place for you :).
