Failed out of school, what are the chances of getting into school?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I failed out of my university the middle of my sophomore year. My GPA was 1.86. About 5 minutes later, I decided to enroll in my local community college. I got the last spot in the EMT basic program they were holding. I passed the class and the NREMT. After that I decided to get my associates of science in biology, I have a 3.7 GPA now and am graduating in the end of April. I did transfer some of my classes from my old school for the general Ed classes. All my pre-req for nursing school are A's and two B's. I'm wondering what my chances are getting into nursing school with failing out school in the past. I also volunteer with my local fire department for the last 3 years and received rookie of the year.

Given that you haven't failed out of nursing school, I'd say that's a whole lot better than if you'd failed out of nursing school itself. What you'll have to do is review entry requirements for nursing school and compare that to your current situation. If it looks like you're qualified to apply, then go ahead and do so. Once upon a time, 20+ years ago, I managed to get put on academic probation. I failed miserably that Quarter and it's all there on my transcripts. That didn't keep my from graduating, but it did dig me a HUGE academic hole that I had to climb my way out of. Later, when I applied to nursing school, I was a "qualified applicant" every time I applied, and while it took me 4 years and 15 applications to get in, I was accepted, and I got through school and now I'm a working nurse.

You can sit there and wonder if you're OK to apply, or you can see if you're qualified and actually apply. One path gets you nowhere. The other gets you actual answers. Your choice.

Thank you for replying, I have already applied for one program, and threads from the school says that if you have higher then a 3.0 GPA, volunteer experience, and either a healthcare cert, like EMT or CNA you have a good chance of getting in. You are right about either wondering or action, and I prefer action. I'm more of wondering if anyone else has been in the same boat and what their outcome was.

I'm not sure how/if that would affect you.

I attended a CC a couple years ago and although I didn't fail out, I had terrible grades (same with my high school career). I have a 4.0 now this semester and last semester. My school doesn't look at your past things as qualifications, just what their required classes/GPA/TEAS V score are but they don't/can't deny people based on their past. Everyone grows and changes!

However, akulahawk says, it's definitely way better for you that it wasn't a nursing program you failed out of. I think that would be a little different of a situation.

Good luck!
