Class questions

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have 4 classes to take - microbiology, developmental psychology, A&P II, and chemistry for health sciences.

I am trying to decide how I should take these classes - I will be taking 2 in the fall and 2 in the spring.

Would it be too difficult to take a Chemistry for Health Science class this fall (which has a good instructor and is suppose to be a good overall class) along with a difficult instructor for Microbiology without it consuming my life.

Also, I took A&P I in the spring 2013 and wouldn't be taking A&P II until the spring 2014, so that is an 8 month length between the 2 classes. Is that too long? The pre-entrance nursing exam that I am taking at my school covers A&P II for science. So, it would be beneficial for me to take A&P II right before this exam, which will be in June 2014 right after I complete A&P II.

Here are my views.

Chemistry is hard, even with a really good instructor. I'm taking an 8 week course, and it DOES consume my life lately. So I would think, that shoving it with another class who has a hard instructor - you'd probably sink yourself. As for AP, I would take AP 2 instead of Micro. That's just me, though. Although, you do make a good point of having AP 2 prior to testing, which might help as a sort of "refresh."

Hope this helps, maybe a little!

Good luck, with whatever you choose! :D

I would suggest taking A&P 2 and chemistry for health sciences in the fall and then taking micro in the spring. One reason being that I took A&P 2 and a similar chemistry class in the same semester, and I found it do-able, and also because I think both the A&P and chem foundation will help you in micro. I don't think you should worry about taking A&P 2 right before you have to take the entrance exam. You will remember the information even if you complete the class a few months in advance.

This is how I would take these classes:

Semester 1: A&PII, Developmental Psychology

Semester 2: Microbiology, Chemistry for health sciences

For semester 1, there is so much memorization and time needed for A&PII -- I think it would couple nicely with Developmental Psychology which tends to be more reading oriented.

For semester 2, chemistry will be the harder of the two courses and will require a lot of your time. Microbiology, for me, tended to have some biochemistry features and will meld nicely with your chemistry.

I took micro last semester with lifespan psych, which is harder than dev psych...and in the fall I'm taking A&P II with chem for health sciences. I would suggest to keep anatomy & micro separate!

I forgot to add...I took A&P I a year ago and am now taking A&P II in the fall so it sucks cuz I feel like I forgot everything lol but my textbook is good for both classes so I'm going to review this summer
