Can't apply to Chamberlain just yet

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Went to visit Chamberlain College of Nursing with hopes apply and getting things started.

unfortunately, my Highschool Transcripts from 14 years ago wasn't that great and was asked to apply again when I reach 24 credit hours from the community college. I'm in my early 30's, been a Certified Medical Assistant for the past 10 years with an excellent Medical Company that's well known here in my city. None of my credits from my Medical Assisting Program transfer so basically I am starting from square one. Currently working full time but willing to quit or decrease my hours to part time to pursue nursing. Just a little afraid because being a Mom and Wife and about to stop everything to do this is giving me a little bit of anxiety. This field is what I love and have been assisting with patients for the past 10 years as a CMA. Anyone in this situation? Ready to drop your day job and hop right back into community college ??

Not sure if this is the best way but I don't think I have any alternatives if I want to apply to a Nursing Program.

Do you have a bachelor's degree in any other field, other than your CNA program? If not, then you will probably be doing ADN, and then ADN to BSN, or a 4 year BSN. I guess you should start with the pre-reqs first, which is what the Chamberlain is asking.

None of my credits from my Medical Assisting Program transfer so basically I am starting from square one.

Where did you go for your Medical Assisting program? Did you show this transcript, or just high school? I only ask because if your school is CHEA approved the credits could possibly count towards the 24 college credits even if they don't transfer. It couldn't hurt to ask.

Specializes in GENERAL.

Sounds like Chamberlain is giving you good advice to stay in community college and get your prerequisites as cheaply as possible.

I think you should know, and I don't mean to offend or hurt you in way, that you are in one of the target demographics that for-profit schools are looking to exploit. Chamberlain (DeVry) is such a school.

You sound desperate and willing to do anything to become a nurse. Desperation is what these for-profits feed off of.

My purpose is to save your financial life and help you from being taken advantage by those in education that do not have your best interests at heart.

Chamberlain will charge you over $100, 000 in tuition for a BSN. This amount is of money is an outrage by any yardstick.

I will assume you would be financing this with Federally backed school loans. For-profits make it so easy for THEM to dip into your interest expensive loan money like drunken sailors. Do not fall prey. You will have a life after school and no nursing degree on God's green Earth is worth a lifetime of debt enslavement afterward.

Also know that once entrapped there is no way out. Not through the courts or any so-called pay as you earn plan. The devil will have his due.

Do one course at a time at the community college. Get your academic confidence up and take it slowly and methodically. You are still young and have many good experiences in life ahead of you that shouldn't be ruined by someone else's greed.

I want you to know that I'm not on anyone's payroll and I post as a service to help present and future colleagues make informed decisions. Go to (collegescorecard.ed.gov) to evaluate schools as to their tuition costs, and graduation and retention rates. These are the things that matter not the snake charmer talk of a for-profit salesperson luring you in by pretending to be an academic advisor.

Good luck with this and in all things.
