Apply to accelerated even if my GPA is near min GPA req?

Students Pre-Nursing

Published

So I want to apply to as many programs as I can for this fall. Most deadlines are approaching quickly. Question, I believe I'm a great candidate for accelerated programs, tons of motivation, energy, passion, etc. but my overall cum GPA is about a 3.01 :( Now that meets most accelerated requirements for overall cum GPA but should I take the time to apply with so many other candidates with higher GPAs?

Thanks for your advice and wisdom:)

Yes!

Many schools will weigh pre-req GPA higher, last 60 units higher, etc. They also take into account other parts of your application including your essays or what not. If you are close to the minimum, apply. I know at least one person who got into an accelerated BSN program with a GPA close to the minimum.

Please apply. Otherwise, you'll find yourself wondering "if only..."

My GPA in my original undergrad degree (Chemical Engineering) was a not so impressive 2.59. Spiffy, huh? Luckily, I'd had 15+ years worth of coursework done after that stage in my life, and consistently earned a 4.0 . Even with all the additional "A's", the program dircetor of my accelerated nursing program required additional letters of recommendation from my A&P and Micro professors. Once those were submitted, I was accepted.

Go for it!

Thanks! Yeah, but chemical engineering? I would say, wow good job on the 2.59 for that major! Congrats to you!!

I will give it a shot!! Thanks for the shout outs!

Sorry, but the 2.59 GPA was merely my "striving for mediocrity", more than difficulty of coursework (OK, it was a royal pain in the tush, but I was still lazy). At that point in my (immature) life, I was only looking to pass, not excel. It was only years later that I decided that I could do better.
