Any other moms

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm enrolled to begin taking my pre-reqs and start working towards my Pre-Nursing degree this spring in Oklahoma. I also have a 1 year old daughter. I was just curious, is there any other moms that have worked towards there Pre-Nursing and then there bachelors degree while being a mom. My husband and I plan on also having another child sooner than later and just would like some insight on if any other moms have went through this and if it is possible to do.

It's hard, but you can do it. I have 4 kids---ages 10, 7, 4, and 10 months---and I also work part time on the weekends. I'm in school full time getting my prereqs done. I study all the time... seriously. The only time I'm not studying is the 6-7 hours I'm sleeping or on weekends when I work. I could get it done faster, but I study in the kitchen or living room as much as I can so that I at least appear to be spending time with everyone. It's all worth it in the end!

I am in my second semester of pre-requisites and I have a five year old and an 18 month old. It's tough but you can make it work. I have a white board calendar in the kitchen to write important dates on. You can do it!

I have a daughter. I was doing my pre reqs got pregnant had her 2 days after my finals and went back the following semester when she was around a month and a half. Spring is my last semester of pre reqs and hopefully in the fall start the BSN program. I'm also taking a cna class this semester so I can work as well.

You can do it, it's just a matter of how badly you want it.

I'm doing it. :) WEll, regarding pre-reqs, I did it, doing the whole nursing school thing currently.

We have three boys - 8, 6, 5(in 6 days). I started my pre-reqs when they were all two years younger than that. It was hard. I'd always been a SAHM, always there for snuggles and owies, the one who they woke up to and the one who put them to bed, and everything in between. I think the adjustment was rougher on me than on them...it was actually better for them, really. They were exposed to more outside interaction and more education than just what I gave them. I blew through my pre-reqs with great grades because I made sure we followed some fairly strict routines regarding bedtimes, homework, suppers, and even chores.

I learned to become a great scheduler. Calendars and lists will be your best friends.

I didn't have anymore kids. We can't afford anymore and they would seriously screw up our plans to take over the world - I mean, get my BSN and then beyond after work. I started in PN, completed that, signed up for ADN, completing that right now, and will hit the BSN stride next fall. I know it sounds stupid the way I am doing it, but I put in a few fail-safes if something happened and I had to start working right away. We'd planned for two anyways, so, as Bill Cosby said, We have three because we don't want four.

It is definitely doable. Just have to want it badly enough, and be determined enough to pull it off. :)

I have twin boys who are only 2 1/2 years old and will be 3 in June. It is definitely harder for moms to find time to study, especially when the children are at a young age because they require non-stop attention. I was never quite able to find any time to study unless they were asleep, but you can do it :)

My little girl will be 2 in feb. I started pre-reqs in the summer. I only take two classes at a time and work 25 hours a week. Its definitely hard and things like house work just don't get done. I rely on my husband a lot!! He makes dinner all week and tries to keep up on the house but he has his own responsibilities to get done too. Nursing school should be a hoot!! LOL! I should also add that Im 37 and we would like to have another child. I don't think we can wait till I graduate because Im not getting any younger!!

I am a single mother of a beautiful 7 month old and I am currently 22 weeks pregnant. I will be going to a 4 year BSN program and commuting every day.

Single Mom here. I started the pre-req road 2 years ago when my youngest was still basically a baby. I'm in my last semester before starting the program and my kids are 5 & 3. My daughter loves hearing all about what I am learning. They also like helping hold note cards or whatever. It's something they are growing up with.

So, it's totally do-able!!

My turn :) I have 3 kids, 16, 4 and 15 months. I started my prereqs in August of 2010 when my 4 year old was just 9 months. In October 2013 I finished my prereqs and I finally applied the fall 2014 semester for the ADN program (prayerfully and believing in faith that I get accepted) with the goal of getting my MSN to to become a ANP. It's been a long journey, and I am very excited. My husband, my mom and my 16 year old daughter are super supportive which is truly a blessing! I work full time and plan on quitting my job to pursue this calling :)

Hello,

I have a four year old and a 1 1/2 year old. I started my pre-req classes before my son was even planned lol. I continued them during pregnancy and working full-time commuting Mon-Friday to work ( 2 hours a day stuck in traffic) , night time/online classes and stopped before I could take my last pre-req ( micro).... Now 5 years later and with two kids, I am in my last class ( micro) and applied to MSN program at USD and will be applying to CSUSan Marcos ABSN program next month. I also volunteer twice a week and never stopped working full-time. I was super strict with my reading and homework study hours and always made sure I made enough time to get my homework done. I have a great support system at home . My husband helps a lot with the kids as well as my mother in law and my mom. There are times that I feel sad because I want to be with them but I know that I will later regret it if I do not do as I planned. My kids are my #1 motivation to get the degree that I have been working for and dreaming of for so long. I do not know how nursing school will compare to my previous experience taking the pre-reqs but I know that if others can do it, so can I. We also planned for me to quit my job and just focus on school. Hopefully , that gives me more time to spend with my kids. I wish you all the best and WE CAN DO IT!
