I just received a WIA Grant from my local One-Stop Career Center for my LPN program that will pay for my tuition, books, uniforms, physical, even gas cards to get to and from school. Also pays for the NCLEX boards after graduation.:D It is a need based grant and you have to qualify under a list of economic requirements in order to be eligible for the program. You also have to score well on a career scope test and the TABE. I don't know if this program exists just here in Florida or if it's national, but you guys should most definitely check this option out! Check out your local One-Stop Career Center and talk to one of the counselors there and I think there's also info on http://wwww.worksourcefl.com. Okay, maybe it is just here in Florida, but who knows, I would research this no matter where I lived! I hope this helps those who are trying find money for school. :nuke:

wow!! Thanks so much.. I am most def gonna try!!

Actually I just met with my WIA contact this morning and I am in Kentucky ...so I am willing to bet it is every where , it may just take people some research to find it , it took me a year to find out enough to contact the contact person! I could have had WIA to help with my last semester and did not even know it then  I wish my financial aid office had told me ....I found out in kinda a friend of a friend round about way KWIM? Oh well i sure am happy to be having it from now on out til I graduate! It will make it so much easier to focus on school with that financial burden off my shoulders for a little while~

WOW, that's awesome! I am definitely going to have to check for one here in AZ! I could use all the help I can get! :chuckle

I had to go through the local community bassed services office (welfare, food stamp . medical card place)to get in touch with my WIA contact , that would be the best place to start!

Good luck

well, see I have alot of finacial problems with going to school because I am 18 and my parents will not fill out the FASFA. but the thing is, I filed as an independant on my taxes and dont even live with my parents.... I have no idea what to do... the finacial department at my school said that there is no way to get finacial aid unless my parents fill it out. I looked up this WIA but I dont think it will cover my BSN program... sorry I rambled on but does anyone have any suggestions for this situation?/ I need help paying for school...I plan on going to U of M

I'm not sure if this grant covers a Bachelor's degree; this grant is designed more specifically for career training (i.e. LPN cerificate or an ASN thorough a community college or other approved vocational school); there's is also a lifetime cap to this grant; I think my counselor said $7,500 I think. So like I'm getting my LPN program paid for; it is unlikely that they'll pay for my RN program. But I am certainly glad they have financial resources like this around. It'll be nice to not have debt when I become a nurse.:nuke:
