Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello! For all those career changers just starting out on the Nursing path, be encouraged! If I can do it ANYONE CAN! I just turned 38, and after 14 years of being out of school, and deciding to pursue Nursing with a non Nursing/Science background (I have a Bachelors degree in History & employment background in the Baltimore City & County school systems & mental health fields at a local non profit agency), I got an A in my Bio 101 class this past Spring semester! It was tough BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE! I found a study partner in my class and met with her every other week to study for tests and exchange notes! Next up A&P I in the Fall. I'm taking baby steps (one pre-req at a time) toward my goal of getting my LPN and bridging to RN-BSN, but I am hopeful and encouraged!

Congrats! It's quite a change. I'm a lot older than you and completing my prerequisites. I've applied to a highly competitive accelerated BSN in my hometown and am waiting to hear. I love to read about success such as yours. I have a 4.0 in my prerequisites as well. It encourages me to see others as motivated. Thanks and keep it up.

I'm 45 and I have 2 more semesters left until I complete my RN. It's definitely do-able! You're never too old to pursue your dreams :)

I am a young student, (20) and even as someone with a strong science background the BIO's are a challenge. Also, I have a cousin in her early 40's who dreamed of being a nurse all her life that was just admitted into the RN program in her town. It seems to be a trend that older adults are entering nursing. That's great for me because I can go to them for advice. :)

What I have learned through my sciences is that I can do anything I put myself up to if the desire is there! Just never lose sight of the end goal!

Hi, I am also a career changer. I am 39 and will be finished with all of my pre-reqs by this fall. After spending 10+ years in education I have decided to make a change. I wish all my career changers, Good Luck!!!

43 here, professional photographer/full time mom of 8 (including step kids) and three still at home. I have all of my nursing pre-reqs and all co-reqs but one complete. 4.0 GPA and 94.8 on the HESI A2. I'm waiting for the applications to open at my community college on July 1. I'm also looking to transfer, and got my first acceptance letter to Concordia University Texas via email (snail mail one is coming!) along with a $16,500/yr merit scholarship.

Good job on living your dream. Keep spreading the word! No matter how old you are, you CAN do it if you want it badly enough! Good luck!

I just turned 39 this week and am in my second semester of pre reqs. I managed a 4.0 last semester after being out of school for 20 years. I have worked in law enforcement for the last 15 years. I think being older has been an advantage for me. I know myself better. I am more focused and I can fight off the desire some college freshman have to spend their weekends binge drinking ;-).

Congrats on your accomplishment and keep up the good work.
