Yale GEPN Applicants 2012

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

There didn't seem to be a main thread for applicants to Yale's GEPN program this year, so I thought I'd get one started. I'm applying for the midwifery specialty and am currently working on my application essays, having done everything else.

Is anyone else really struggling with the main essay? I've finished my apps to two other programs and was happy with how those essays came out, but Yale's essay guidelines as so restrictive that I feel like my essay is turning out all disjointed. The fact that we have to answer every aspect of every question in *exactly the order they list* (this is apparently something that you need to take very seriously) means that I'm having to tie myself in knots. I want it to be not only informative about me as an applicant but also a good piece of writing - and I feel like the essay format is making this kind of difficult.

Anyone else out there applying?

No, I don't think we get that option - at least, I didn't.

If you're really concerned that the version of the essay you want to submit may not be the one that's attached, try emailing admissions with the correct version when you submit your application, just politely asking them to confirm the file name for you.

thanks. i really appreciate the help!

i think i figured it out. when you attach a file, it replaces the file that was uploaded previously. only one file can be in there at a time. so as long as the correct file was the last uploaded - we're golden!

cheers.

submitted! now...we wait!

Hi everyone!!

I just recently found this thread and am so glad I did! How does everyone feel about the application? I am so excited about this whole process :)

hey! i'm very excited about the whole process - though it's certainly been a journey. everything is in (i'm assuming!). i emailed sandra esposito yesterday and she replied...saying that she was so overwhelmed she couldn't get back to everyone quickly. haven't heard anything since...eek! what is your specialty?

i'm curious to know how many people are applying right out of school?

excited that you found this. it's not as active as other boards in the past - maybe it will become more active as interview news starts coming out.

be well.

k.

Hey!

I'm so nervous about the application, even now that everything is out of my hands! I'm applying right out of school, and though I worked all through college I don't feel I'm as "well rounded" as some applicants who have been out in the world for a few years. & simplekategirl, I've heard that applications are down this year...maybe this board is a reflection of that.

I'm applying for pediatric np specialty. What about everyone else?

I'm applying for FNP, and I've been out of school for a long time so this is a midlife career change for me.

So nervous about this whole process....I applied to Duke and University of TX-Austin as well, and my main goal at this point is to get accepted somewhere, anywhere! Duke was my first choice originally, but they recently changed the program to just an ABSN with early application for the MSN program (no conditionally guaranteed MSN spot anymore, just a chance to apply earlier). Yale is my first choice program-wise, but my least favorite in terms of the city/climate/area. Where has everyone else applied?

I am a midlife career changer as well! Though I currently work

In the care management dept at a hospital - medical

Administration. I know my college grades won't get me

In so I'm banking on my letters of ref and my essay!

Has anyone gotten confirmation from Sandra in regards

To a complete or incomplete application? I did delivery confirmation for my

Packet so I know that's there...and I got confirmation saying that

My online application had gone through - though not if all the

Attachments were there correctly! I would feel better

With an actual email stating its complete and in for

Review!!

Where did this news about application numbers being down?!

I like the competition - though I like greater chances!!

I applied for the AGNP track - haven't met anyone

Else this year applying - though I haven't met very many

People at all!

Any idea what the breakdown in number of accepted

Applicants for each specialty is? Are they all the same amount/size?

It always appears that midwifery is the largest and most

Popular group. I wonder if they cater to that?!

Glad we are all in here!

I am daily thinking about the future trying not

To get too hopeful but remaining positive at

The same time!

Mid December for interview notification correct?!

K.

I got a confirmation from Sandra, but I turned in my application really early. I imagine she's buried in stacks of paper by now, so I wouldn't worry too much about not getting confirmation right away. I'm expecting that we'll hear about interviews in mid-December.

Do y'all live in New England now? Anyone else contemplating a cross-country move if accepted to the program?

I am local! I have 4 children and a house here so I'm

Not going far! In fact, Yale is the only school I've applied

To. I'm really hoping it works out for me!!

I'm going to email Sandra again today. I need the peace

Of mind that it's officially in. I had a dram last night that

I never heard one way or another because they

Never received my application!

And we aren't even to interview time yet - I need to relax!!

Hi everyone,

I applied for the AGNP GEPN program. I submitted my app on Halloween. I've been a teacher in a NYC private school for 14 years now, I started right out of college.

I'm very excited about Yale, but I actually applied ED to Columbia. We find out in mid-to-late December! If I were blessed enough to be accepted to both, it would be a difficult choice. Columbia is non-binding, but I'm sure they'll be a cutoff date. Columbia would be much easier, since I already live right outside NYC. I applied last year to Columbia but didn't get in.

Stats: I have an Ivy BA, and a Master's from a top tier school. However, I don't have any medical experience since I'm a full-time schoolteacher. I did reasonably well on my GRE's and I've taken a bunch of prereqs because of Columbia's requirements. So far, I've gotten A's, but Statistics isn't over yet and I'll probably end up with a B+. I'm very nervous - I think these programs are increasingly cutthroat and some amazing candidates apply. Good luck to all of you! I look forward to chatting on this forum, especially as the dates grow nearer.
