LookingAhead 227 Posts Oct 3, 2011 dedicatedone - we would for sure be awarded an "actual degree". After the 3-year GEPN program you have an MSN. The difference between Yale and some other accelerated programs is that Yale does not award you a BSN, just an MSN. After the prespecialty requirements are completed they award you a Certificate in Nursing so that you are eligible to take the NCLEX, but then you're supposed to just carry on through the end of the MSN program.

LookingAhead 227 Posts Oct 12, 2011 Alright, I'm FINALLY getting ready to submit this application - probably tomorrow. I've been stalling because I've been traveling a lot...and because Yale's essays are a huge pain in the behind.I feel pretty good about the main essay (the one with the zillions of questions that absolutely cannot be skipped or ignored or order changed or looked at funny on pain of immediate rejection from the program), but because of how detailed the questions are, I feel like I've said everything I have to say! And then there's the short essay...which I've basically totally addressed in the long essay, because the entire reason I want to become a nurse-midwife is based on my "community service, community leadership or working with vulnerable and underserved populations".GAH.I don't want to be repetitive, but I'm seriously running out of ideas. Also, I'm nervous because I don't have anyone lined up to read these essays specifically (a lot of the text is stuff I used in my other applications, which other people looked over, but some of it is obviously unique to this application).Anyone else having these issues? The deadline is so soon...
LookingAhead 227 Posts Oct 13, 2011 Despite my previous griping, I've managed to just submit my application. Phew - that was my last one.The website went all buggy right at the end, but I think everything eventually went through.

simplekategirl 87 Posts Oct 27, 2011 good for you! i'm finishing up my last edits to my essay tonight and sending it in! excited with physical gittyness to go with it! what's your specialty?
sirgalahad 11 Posts Oct 27, 2011 Midwivery, which seems really popular/competitive. How about you? Does anyone know how many people apply and the breakdown in specialty areas? I'm not applying anywhere else this year, so I am just elated to have the app process over with. I would be so thrilled just to get an interview. Join me in being done, simplekategirl! You can do it!
farful 33 Posts Oct 27, 2011 Yes, midwifery seems to be the most competitive. For this year's incoming class, they had the highest GPA and GRE scores. The breakdown in specialty seems to differ from year to year.
LookingAhead 227 Posts Oct 28, 2011 Admissions departments never seem to give the breakdown for how many people apply for each specialty! I'm applying for midwifery too, sirgalahad - I know it's either the most competitive or one of the most competitive specialties at every school I'm applying to. Sigh. :)
