There didn't seem to be a main thread for applicants to Yale's GEPN program this year, so I thought I'd get one started. I'm applying for the midwifery specialty and am currently working on my application essays, having done everything else.
Is anyone else really struggling with the main essay? I've finished my apps to two other programs and was happy with how those essays came out, but Yale's essay guidelines as so restrictive that I feel like my essay is turning out all disjointed. The fact that we have to answer every aspect of every question in *exactly the order they list* (this is apparently something that you need to take very seriously) means that I'm having to tie myself in knots. I want it to be not only informative about me as an applicant but also a good piece of writing - and I feel like the essay format is making this kind of difficult.
Anyone else out there applying?
I just spoke with a group of gepn students who are on rotation at my hospital and they said that 4 out of 84 students were AGNP and most others were peds and midwifery. The other specialties were less in number than midwifery and peds but equal to each other in size. Apparently the AGNP track is by far the smallest.
Thought you'd all be interested in a reply from -- in regards to applicant pool numbers!
I had a rather unpleasant experience with the Grad Café Forums last year when I was working at Yale Divinity School, so at this point I honestly don’t feel comfortable sharing any information that will then be posted on line. *And truthfully, we are still processing applications, so there isn’t any hard data available just yet.
I plan to provide this information to applicants as we near the end of the application process, that is generally what I did when I was at the Divinity School, too, to help applicants put the decisions in perspective.

Best wishes,

@simplekategirl: I am also AGNP. On Columbia's board as well, it seems the Adult track is one of the least popular. That's fine by me! Not sure about the delivery method for interviews.
