University of San Francisco Summer 2014 MSN CNL for non-nurses

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Hello everyone,

This thread is for the University of San Francisco Masters in Clinical Nurse Leader Program for non-nurses (Summer 2014 cohort) I didn't see one so I decided to make one. Anyone else applying?

@phillycakes Sorry for the delayed reply... I tried to change as much as I could. To be honest I felt like I had a strong application the first time around and was really disappointed so it was hard to figure out what I could change. I took up three more volunteer gigs at my local hospital centered around nursing and direct patient contact. I switched out one recommendation letter for one that was from someone less influential but the letter itself was far more compelling. By that I mean I removed my rec from the executive director of my masters program for one from a co-worker at the hospital where I worked... I think sometimes the signature carries a lot of weight but perhaps at USF the content of the letter is the most important! Last, I completely changed my essay. My first essay was a heart felt narrative about my passion for nursing while my second one was focused more on my strengths and aspects about myself I couldn't cover in the rest of the application. I also really stepped up my "Why USF?" section of the essay. I did a lot more research about the program and related it to my strengths as well as my goals for patient care and research. I think you have PLENTY of time to work on stepping up your application. I applied for spring and then summer so I literally only had eight weeks to make as many changes as possible. I have also noticed a trend of people getting in after being rejected once. I think they hold weight in the fact you are reapplying and are obviously really committed to their program. GOOD LUCK!

Has anybody from the waitlist heard anything?

I haven't heard anything

OMG I GOT IN!!!! :)

Ah!! Congratulations :) did they call you?

Yes just now! I'm so excited!!!! I didn't think I would get in and was so depressed after getting rejected by CSUEB. I need to do so much in such little time! I have to talk to my boss at work too.

Congratulations @yoliness!!!

Hi yoliness,

I just got a call from them also, I was accepted. :nailbiting: I can't believe it! I'm reaching out to you because I'm hoping to make some friends before orientation this Monday lol :) I'm coming from LA so I'm a bit freaked out right now! Where am I going to live? eekkk My name is Jackie, reach out to me if you'd like...and congratulations once again!

Hi emzie25,

I just got in..I can't believe it! I've been following this thread for a while now, but never interacted with anyone because I was pretty upset I was placed on the waitlist. I've just requested to be added on the FB page you've created. I hope to meet you in person this Monday at orientation :D I hope to meet all of you guys..I'm so excited for all of us :)

I pretty much gave up all hope too! I requested to be added to the FB page as well. I'm so excited to meet you all at orientation! I'm really glad right now that I got all of my health requirements done ahead of time just in case.

So happy for @yoliness and @jtekin!!!!! I didn't hear from them today so I am pretty sure I have a very slim chance now of being accepted. Time to prep for the next application period!

Congrats to all that got in! Hope to see you guys at orientation. (:
