Has anyone attended the western Pennsylvania School of Nursing? If so id like to know if you liked it and why and would you recommend it to me as a male?

I recently got accepted into the West Penn School of Nursing and I'm attending there this August. Everything that I've read about it seems like it is a great place to go. Whenever I went on my interview the instructor told me that it the school probably the most males than other nursing schools. I hope that helps!

I applied for this school back in Jan and received a call today to set up an interview. I was just wondering how your interview went (obviously good since you got in)! Congrats I was just wondering what they asked etc? Also how long after did you have to wait to find out you got in? Thank you

Hey,

Whenever I went for my interview the school was on a break so she could meet with the board earlier to find out if I got in. I heard probably a couple weeks later. After my interview she told me i most likely got in but it wasn't official. I was really nervous for my interview but she was really nice. Since I'm graduating high school this year she asked a lot about my sciences classes I was taking and if they were taught at a college or high school level. She asked a lot about how I became interested in west penn in particular and why i chose the nursing field. Also there were a lot of questions about what nurses do in general and she wants to be sure you know about some of the dirty work involved. She gives tons of information about the school that made me want to go there even more. I'm really excited and I hope it goes well for you! Let me know!

Hi, my name's Haley and I got accepted into West Penn for this August. I have to say, I'm really excited to be going there. I loved about the program and the people there were really nice. They actually cared about how you were as a person, other then some other places I have looked into. I am actually coming from a small town of about 8,000 people and so this is a big leap going into the city. I'll be there April 3rd-6th no matter what my test shows. I hope to possibly meet or see some of you there.

That's awesome. I'm so excited and also kinda nervous. Are you going to be living at the school?

Im in my last year at WPH SON, I can tell you that its tough. They raised the grading scale and made some changes starting this fall for the freshman class. Be ready to work your ass off because when your here your going to hit the ground running. Nursing tests are no joke, if you want to know what kind of test questions are asked on a nursing exam so you can get a idea, go get an NCLEX book. but other then that the school is good but typically the first class starts off at around 85-95 students and by the end of your first year your around 55-60 students. most students dont make it out of nursing 101 and 103

I want to go to West Penn so bad, but am still waiting to hear. I haven't even gotten a call for an interview yet :o I have a 4.0 in all my college classes, had a 3.0 in high school, 1200 on SATs, had some good references, and thought my essays were pretty good. Granted, they only received the last part of my application (the final transcript from this past semester) 10 days ago, but I thought they would've called me for an interview by now. At least the admissions secretary made it sound like they call right away when I was talking to her awhile ago when I was inquiring about the whole process. For those of you who are in, how long did it take to get in for the interview, and then how long after that to find out? WP is really my first choice and I'm going nutty waiting :clown:

It took a while to hear back so I made sure that I kept calling back a lot. I emailed them constantly too. I was basically an annoying pest until they set up my interview. Just keep trying

Yes, I am. :3 It'll be my first time away from home. That will be different.

I wouldnt worry about if your going to get an interview, I'm pretty sure you will provided if you done well in high school or college classes. Be prepare to answer such questions like why west penn, why you want to be a nurse, what does a nurse do? the questions are not rocket science, Joan brooks will be the person you will get interviewed by, you will have a choice to either come in for the interview or be on the phone. I did mine on the phone last year and others have told me they wished they could have done theirs on the phone as well. The interview is easy, but the school is not. New grading scale, new ati testing requirements, just be prepared you will go through some major stress out exam days. I've seen people with backgrounds as engineers, OT, PT, teachers, patient care techs and people with advance degrees in science not doing well. they start off doing well since 101 is just the basics then come acute and chronic and most of us are scraping by. If you never seen a grown man cry or a group of females cry together, or my favorite is seeing a group of students go into a panic attack and totally wig out and lose it, YOU WILL!!! nursing school changes people, you will see some ppl drop 25 pds just cause of the stress and some ppl put 25 pds on. we have a guy who is around late 40's had light brown hair and now its going white, he looks like hes aged 10 years, matter of fact we all look like we aged 10 years. Im just saying be prepared for anything cause your going to work your ass off like no other
