UPMC Mercy School of Nursing -Class of '15

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hi AllNurses community! I have been searching for a thread for the UPMC Mercy Hospital Class of 2015, but alas; no such luck. Therefore, I created one!

I was accepted to start in August 2013 and was looking for others who were, or are looking to be accepted. I know it's early still, but I am ready to start school and secure a study group.

Now to my question: I know Mercy has a tuition contract. Does anyone know anything about it? Is it a good deal? I know they are sending information about it, but I am interested in hearing opinions.

Thanks!

I sent in my money to reserve my spot at Mercy but I have just accepted a job at UPMC Presby and would like to transfer to shady side.

Does anyone know if this would be possible?

Yinzer I would apply to Shadyside asap I don't believe they do transfers.

Shadysides school is affiliated with presby and shadyside. If I go to mercy, will I most likely be confined to mercy hospital in terms of likeliness of employment or is that on me to network through the system? This is a question for those who have gone through the program and were hired. Opinions welcome

Not sure what you mean, Mercy is a upmc hospital. You won't be confined anywhere.

Just because you attend Mercy, you're not guaranteed or confined to working only at Mercy.

So I have a question... I just finished all my criminal clearances and mailed them back to mercy and I was wondering about the physical you have to get..will they send more information about that or are we supposed to just call and make an appointment because I haven't heard anything about that yet?

The packet said we would hear more about that, so I'm assuming they will mail something else out. Should be before the orientation day in June.

Ok that's what I thought, I just wanted to double check. Thank you!

So I sent in my payment to reserve my spot, and got the packet in the mail however i am missing the first page of orientation information. I was wondering if anybody could tell me the dates for orientation and a little info about what is on page 1?

Thanks

Armygirl, orientation is June 17th from 8am-3pm. I can scan it to you. What's ur email? And what does your second page say so I can send you the right thing. They sent quite a few packets at once.

Hi guys,

I'm totally new here, and I was hoping for a little bit of advice regarding this process at Mercy. I originally planned to apply to Mercy for Fall '13, but now I'm considering postponing my application to Fall '14 due to some unexpected life circumstances. I could technically still register for the PSB in early May and apply immediately thereafter, but I'm really pushing the deadline and reading about everything you guys have been working on for months is making me REALLY uneasy about doing that.

I was thinking that in the meantime (hopefully to put myself a little ahead of the game) I may take some pre-requisites at CCAC to free up my schedule for next year. For those of you in a similar position, did your credits transfer? What specific courses should I take, besides A&P?

Thanks for any advice in advance, and good luck to everyone starting in the fall! So exciting. :)

I would get as much out of the way as you can. I'd def take a&p 1&2, and micro. If you can get anything else out of the way too then do it but those are the heavy hitters.
