Looking For Other Pa Nurses!!!!

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hello all,

I'm taking this chance to meet other nurses in PA. Who knows, maybe I've meant some of you. I graduated a year ago, and meant a lot of other nursing students in clinicals, and such.

Anyway, if you're interested in joining this discussion to meet others in PA who are recent grads., leave some comments.

Anyway, I'm wondering what kinds of hours everyone else is working, where people are working, what kinds of skills you're all learning, and your current job satisfaction, etc. Right now, I work quite a number of hours in a cardiovascular surgical unit. It's pretty good experience. Sometimes I find I get taken advantage of to work a lot of hours, but most times I don't mind, cuz I get a lot of good experience. I may move on to CRNA school someday. Any body else have grad. school aspriations?

Anyway, if you're a recent grad. or from PA, join the discussion, and let people know what's out there for new grads.

Thanks,

If you are responding to me, I do too. Thank you, Deb.
Not yet but that is where I will be going. How's the entrance exam???

Thanks!! Kim

Hi Kim. I'm currently at the end of level 2 at CTC Lackawanna County. the entrance exam wasn't bad, although time management was a small issue. I ran out of time with about 25 questions left in the subjective section, which wasn't a prob because the interview went extremely well(i was told this post acceptance). there was a fairly in depth english comp and math section as i remember-although it seems like a decade ago. Each testing class had around 40 ppl in it, which they held 6 testing dates to fill 46 seats for the June '09 class. We are currently 2 weeks from the end of level 2 and we are down to 27(we lost 3 this week-1 to emergency illness) I think we may be finished losing students to educational insufficiencies but there are a bunch of students who are maxed out on time missed. Good luck and hold on...it's a fun ride!:uhoh21:

hi ! Are mental health jobs available in Pa? I grew up in Pa.Moved out of the area in my 20s . Funding has been drastically cut in NH for mental health . Jobs are far and few between. Looking to move back "home"

I checked on our intranet for MH jobs and there are jobs at 3 or 4 UPMC facilities available for RN's.

Hi Pete,

I work in Pa, Philly to be exact. Also graduated approx 1 year prior...

Hi PA nurses,

I live in northwestern PA. Have worked as an RN for approx. 2 years now in ICU. Was an LPN for 15 years before that. Would love to meet others in my area to chat to.

Specializes in Telemetry, Home Health.

I graduated with BSN in summer '06 and now work for Bayada home care. I don't get many hours, so I've been applying for everything I can find for the last few months. I would love to work in L&D, so it would be great to hear from anyone who works in L&D in Southeastern PA.

Specializes in Psych, Med/Surg, LTC.

I am currently in Susquehanna county, grew up in Luzerne county. I am on a nursing hiatus the last year (had another baby) , but looking to work again pt or pd.

Specializes in Med/Surg < 1yr.

I just did a clinical rotation at Magee Women's Hospital. I was interested in L&D and was told to get in L&D you have to first already work at Magee because right now they didn't have openings. They hired about 10 new hires. However, if you work in Magee, when a position becomes available, you would be able to get in. I took a position in med/surg at another hospital so I won't be applying for L&D anytime soon.
