Hey there, I came across this post looking for something else so I thought I'd write u back Im a PACT RN in the VA for about 2 years....stands for Patient Aligned Care Team. You are a nurse in an out pt setting, you're on a team w/ a provider and an LPN. You have your own clinic schedule where u can schedule pts for blood pressure checks, diabetes teaching, med recs, injections, etc. You work along side w/ your provider. You also act as a nurse navigator connecting vets to services & treatments needed. Major role of position is communication w/ vets via multiple phone calls per day, answering secure messages (software vets use to communicate w/ their PACT team) or the charting system via "alerts"...pts call into the call center and the PACT team is alerted via a note in the pt's chart which u will be tagged in... another name for the pact RN is care manager, not to be confused w/ case manager its a good job for someone who wants to sit all day in an office setting, I came from ER so I find it extremely boring @ times ? but I would def recommend if your looking for a slower pace but some teams are busier than others depending on the total # of pt's on that team... all & all it's a decent job ? hope this helps!
  2. Happy 40th! I graduated nursing school @ 41. Been working for 4 years and going for BSN @ 45. Most of my classmates were the early to mid 30s and over. You'll be surprised to see how many older adults are in your class. Nursing is very popular as a 2nd career in life. Absolutely luv the 3 day work week in my 40s!! Good Luck in your new venture!
