OHSU ABSN 2013 Applicants

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

I didn't see a thread.....although it is quite early yet for some to be thinking about the upcoming application session. I am a senior at Marylhurst/PCC, will be graduating Spring 2013 and applying to OHSU, Duke, and John Hopkins this Fall.

Anyone current students that have advice? Anyone who just applied have any tips for the application? Anyone else applying?

Good Luck to those taking Summer courses!

They're both great schools, but as an out- of- state student I would choose Linfield because it is less expensive and finances are a concern for me. Although, I didn't apply to Linfield because they require you to have your degree in hand before applying (not matriculation) and I don't graduate for another couple weeks, and therefore, I wasn't able to apply before the deadline and would have to wait until next cycle to apply. In addition, my husband will be attending OHSU for medical school in the fall, so it would be more convenient for us to both attend the same school.

I contacted the admissions lady that I have been e-mailing and she said that the committee has not sent the final admissions to them yet, but it should be this week or early next week- so still mid-April for letting us know.

They are having both the Summer and the Fall cohorts, that has been in place since it started a few years ago. When I first asked about a month ago, they said they would calling, e-mailing, and snail mailing those that were accepted into the program- those that were waitlisted or declined would only be getting letters through snail mail.

So anxious-- I am such a planning type of person, so this is sucking the life out of me not knowing. Hard to focus on chemistry and other courses.......

I agree with maddi13 in that they are both great schools. These are just my perceptions on the two schools but I feel linfield is more close-knit and personable, while OHSU has more opportunities in that it is a renowned research institute. At this point, I am more than happy to go to either one. BUT since I am in-state, if I get into ohsu I will be going there because of the tuition difference.

thanks for the update :) I really hope the final admission decisions are sent to the office like tomorrow and we magically know by the end of this week!

same here, I want to plan things for the next few months, but can't because I don't know where i'll be going.

Hey everyone,

Because of special circumstances (needing to put down a deposit at another school by Wednesday) I was able to get my admissions decision today. I am waitlisted, which is ok because I have been accepted to Johns Hopkins and will start in the Fall!

They said that they will send the letters in the mail on Monday.

Here are my stats for anyone interested:

cumulative GPA: 3.6

pre req GPA: 4.0 (everything except nutrition completed at the time of application)

undergrad in Modern Literature

Volunteer experience at OHSU (currently at 130 hours)

Previous career: elementary school teacher

Work with underserved populations in Korea, Laos and in Portland as a volunteer mentor to at-risk youth

I feel like I wrote a great essay but that my GPA was what got me waitlisted. The average accepted student has a 3.84 (or so I've read)

Good luck to everyone!!!!

Congratulations on your acceptance to Johns Hopkins! That's quite impressive! Question: did they say whether they will be emailing or calling anyone this week by chance?

I would recommend calling. I called this morning and spoke with a very kind woman who released my information right away. I have been accepted as an ABSN student, but they could not tell me if it was the Fall or the Summer cohort. I applied for the summer start. They said I will receive that information in the mail next week :) Hooray! I look forward to meeting other accepted students as well.

Congrats Kmunns !!!! If you wouldn't mind, would you be willing to post your "student stats" I (and I think a lot of other people including future applicants) am interested in knowing what an accepted student looks like on paper.

maddi13 They said that they will not be calling or emailing, they will be sending out snail mail letters on Monday.

Of course. I am happy to help. Please PM me for any details/questions.

I've been waitlisted for the Summer 2013 cohort.

I have also been put on the alternate list for the summer cohort. Sad day :(

Looks like I will be attending Linfield for this summer, anyone else?

For those who have been waitlisted, does anyone know how long the list is? Or what position you are on the list? Cheers!

Well I just called-- I had checked my application online and noticed that a new one was created yesterday for Fall 2013 ABSN. The sweet person who answered offered to check my file, but then said she actually couldn't tell me anything as they were still deciding on my application: AHHHHHH!

Congrats to all who got in and I send hopeful wishes to those that didn't that you get into another program that you love.
