OHSU ABSN 2013 Applicants

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

I didn't see a thread.....although it is quite early yet for some to be thinking about the upcoming application session. I am a senior at Marylhurst/PCC, will be graduating Spring 2013 and applying to OHSU, Duke, and John Hopkins this Fall.

Anyone current students that have advice? Anyone who just applied have any tips for the application? Anyone else applying?

Good Luck to those taking Summer courses!

I got an email about being on the alternate list, but have already accepted a spot at another school so I won't be taking a spot if it comes up and is offered to me. Good luck to all of you :)

OHSU was at one point my first choice school but they take far too long to get back to applicants...

I am an alternate as well .... seems like there are quite a few of us. It will be interesting to see what is in the letters when they arrive.

Congrats to those of you who have been accepted ... I wish you much luck :-)

I got an acceptance email today for the Fall cohort! I am wishing all the best for you wait-listers as I was in your position last year and totally understand what you are going through!

My stats:

Previous degree: BA in psychology 3.65 GPA

pre-reqs (all completed before application) 4.0

I have worked in the field for just under a year but didn't really talk too much about that on my essay. I focused on why I wanted to be a nurse and what helped me make my decision.

Good luck to everyone waiting!

Does anyone know if there is a facebook page for this years students?

No facebook page yet-- so feel free to create one and then list the name here so others can join :)

Yes, lots of waitlisters-- and so far a mix of Summer and Fall cohorts for those accepted.

Still didn't hear back today, but will wait and see what tomorrow brings- the sweet admissions lady said to call back Friday if I didn't get word by then, so that way I can make plans.

I've been waitlisted for the Summer 2013 cohort.

eando I have also been put on the alternate list for the summer cohort. Sad day :(

Looks like I will be attending Linfield for this summer, anyone else?

how do you know if you were waitlisted specifically for the summer cohort? Do they do separate waitlist for summer and fall - or do they just take the list in order and fill what ever spot comes up with who ever is next on the list?

I would assume that you just fill whatever spot opens up first-- but I am unsure, and it doesn't seem to have been mentioned in previous years boards.

Would someone mind posting what their waitlist e-mail said? Or did your online application status change to say waitlist either?

Crossing fingers for us all!

OMG I missed a call from admissions today, they have a question about my application?!

Left them a VM with my cell #-- and will be calling back tomorrow ASAP :(

I called earlier today and the admission lady told me that I was on the waitlist for the summer 2013 cohort but i'm not exactly sure what that means. Maybe she just meant that I would be on the waitlist in general. It wasn't specified in the email though

It is interesting that last year the Fall cohort (32 students) was half the size of the Summer cohort (64).

They had around 500 applications and accepted just under 100.

I'm in the Summer 2012 cohort. They were only able to accept 32 in the fall due to student:instructor ratios set by the OSBN. Also, in the 3rd/4th terms you will attend classes with other cohorts and there are only so many clinical placements so they were not able to accept more people.

As far as wait listing goes, I was on the wait list prior to getting in. You will not find out your position. I think last year they had at least 80 or more on the wait list. I ended up getting a call the first few weeks of May and offered a spot. We also had one of our classmates get a call about 3 days before orientation. So don't count it out wait listers!
