Getting ready for my PCC essay! Breathe...

Hoping to come home to a CCC letter!

Sartorius1, I had one B in PSY237 and got a proctored essay invitation for PCC. My overall GPA is 3.91. Where did you apply?

How was the essay, Lilpoka? Mine is tomorrow and I am getting really stressed!

    Hi Miss,
The essay went pretty good. I wouldn't be stressed (even though I was a little, too). The way I looked at it...if you are honest, know your own experience, and what you bring to the table you will do fine! That is what I worked on, is just really knowing my story and my life. I was able to crank out two pages right to the end. But they were pretty nice in there so just take a deep breathe and think about you, where you've been, what you've done...You'll do just fine.

I AM having a tad bit of sadness CCC letter today. Ugh! I wish they would just send those puppies out, lol.

    Hi lilpoka,

what did you think of the clothing situation? did you feel like the proctors were paying attention? i'm still on the fence about dressing up. i actually feel better when i'm wearing comfortable clothing and dress up clothes are not comfortable for me. i know it seems silly, but one of the many pluses about the nursing profession to me is the comfy uniform

MissMichelle, thanks for the reply! I actually did not apply for this year because I'm finishing up anatomy. I plan on applying to Linfield, PCC, and OHSU for 2013. Maybe CCC but have not looked into their program much.

There was a variety clothing choices at today's PCC essay, but several people were wearing jeans. Only one guy in a suit, and to be perfectly honest, seemed a bit out of place. We were checked in by an administrative assistant and our names were never made public. To identify us, the proctors would have had to look over each of our shoulders, write down our essay number, and then match it to the master list, etc. (Didn't happen!) If you are at all concerned (as I was), wear comfortable business casual (slacks, nice top, etc.).

Just got back from the MHCC essay / interview. Drinking a glass of wine to calm the nerves. It was actually more laid back that I thought it would be. The MHCC people are very nice and seemed to be trying to sell us on the idea of going there. The clothes people wore kind of surprised me. People were not as dressed up as I thought they would be. I still wore a suit and felt good about it. Out of 10 of us, 3-4 of us wore business attire, 1 was in scrubs, 3-4 were in business casual, and a few were in everyday type nice clothes. If any of you are thinking about what to wear to an interview, just go all out business attire. You won't regret it. If you don't, you can bet that there will be people there (including the people interviewing you) wearing more formal clothes. Overall I was impressed with what they had to offer. I am slightly concerned that I would not get enough ICU clinicals however which is where I want to end up. They said you do have an opportunity to pursue the ICU in your senior practicum but not during the regular clinicals.

Congratulations Portland Medic! I had my essay / interview last week and was curious how many out of the 10 you interviewed with were actually working in a health care related field with direct patient experience? I was surprised there were only 3 of us (out of 9) that were working in the health care field with direct patient experience. There was someone else with their CNA certification but they were not working as a CNA. I think you mentioned (and by your usrnm) that you are already working in the field?

    Hi Sushi,

What day did you go to Mt Hood? I was there Thursday. And not everyone there had their CNA either. I wonder if we were there at the same time.

And I agree with the comments about PCC clothing...wear something comfy, but nice.

Sushi- Most people there had some form of health care experience. I think there were 4-5 CNA's, 1 EMT, a couple MA's, and some people doing office type work in clinics. Yeah i've been a paramedic for 12 years, which is what drew me to nursing, having worked so close with them for so long.

I got my Clackamas invite too!
  13. by Lilpoka question now is...what is the "written" part? I thought it was only a group interview. Hmmm, wonder what we have to do for that? Does anyone know???

Either way, I'm so excited! Picked my date- May 18th!
