Applicants to Portland area schools

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Greetings fellow future nurses! I just mailed my application packets for Mt. Hood CC, Clackamas CC, and Portland CC today and excited to be done with them. I have my proctored essay for OHSU this Wednesday and am a little worried because I have NO idea what is going to be asked. I haven't been able to get any feedback on what is on any of the essays. I am also applying to Chemeketa but am probable wasting my time as I am missing 2 of the pre-recs required there that aren't required at the OCNE schools. Well, the worst they can say is no, right?

Anyway, the Oregon Nursing Programs sections has been a little dead lately so I was hoping to spark some dialogue. This is my first year applying and I'm already getting a little stressed. I kind of have a lot riding on getting in somewhere next fall. My fiance and I are kind of planning on it. I'm hoping that doesn't backfire! How's it going with everyone?

For those of you waiting to hear back from OHSU for the Portland Campus - I just called the school and the lady told me all the letters have been sent out today. Get ready :)

Yup, definitely just had a run of V-tach.

Me as well (re: V-tach).

I just received my notice - postmarked yesterday. I'm on the alternate list. I'll try to remain hopeful, but not too hopeful. But hopeful.

Good luck to everyone else!

Reid, where are you on the alt list?

Hi emmyers,

The letter states that they won't tell us where we rank, but that admission is a possibility for all alternates.

I'm going to pretend that I'm first on the list, though, so all future comments will be based on this delusion. ;)

Well, I wouldn't worry too much, since you already have an in it PSU; Congrats on your hard work this far!

Thank you and good luck!

Acckkk!!! Nothing in the mail today for me... Grrrrr.... Another stupid day of waiting.

Edit: I just noticed that my timestamps are weird and NurseLaura posted last night. But instead it was today (Friday). Rage level decreasing somewhat. :)

Well got my letter from OHSU and am on the alternate list. Glad to at least have an alternate spot but I don't think my anxiety will find reprieve until I get an official offer from somewhere....assuming i actually get one. Gawd this is gonna be a long month.

reid and portland medic:

congrats!! getting on the alternate list is still a big deal. i read in some other forum that this guy got a rejection letter from ohsu, and they still ended up calling him offering him a position (i'm assuming they ran out of alternates that year!).. either way, keep your head up!

i still haven't gotten my letter, i'm assuming it'll be here tomorrow or monday. if you both don't mind me asking, what were your guys' gpa when you applied? and qualifications/experiment that you included in your essay? i'm trying to get an idea if i'll get atleast an alternate position!

Portland medic,

Congrats on getting an alternate spot. I've got my fingers crossed for you.

Nurse Laura,

I thought my application was pretty strong. I have a 4.0 in pre-reqs, almost 10 years experience as a paramedic, volunteer search and rescue experience and leadership as well as an AS in electrical engineering with work and management experience in this field. I was also very pleased with my essay.

My cumulative GPA is mid 3's from several classes I took about 20 years ago. This may have made the difference for me. The warnings from my mother are proving to be true so many years later.

I've also gained a strong appreciation for the quality of students that are being accepted into the area programs. The word "competitive" doesn't come close to describing it.

I'll likely remove my credentials from this post later, but it's therapeutic for me right now to put it all out there and possibly helpful to others as they are hopeful to get in.

Cheers and good luck all!

Reid,

That is one impressive application! You should be proud of yourself. I think you still have a really high chance of getting in off the alternate list. With such an impressive application, you should be at the top of the alternate list. Keep your spirits up!

I have to wait until tomorrow to see if anything came in the mail. So anxious!
