There is a lot to learn in the OR and it was (and still is at times) scary. Everyone says this (but it's true)...it took me a year to actually feel like I wasn't a moron. Things started to fall into place at 6 months but after a year I felt comfortable. Have a healthy respect for the whole process. I still wake up excited about going to work after 2 years. It is the second most challenging thing I've ever done (kids were first). I love my job. Good luck to you!

I :redbeathe my job too!!

It was utterly and completely overwhelming for a long time but once it clicks it's amazing. I was precepted by many different people. Everyone has their own spin on how things are done so I simply took it all in and combined the best practice into my own way of doing things. Many people told me to take notes but I found that useless in the early days of training. There's just too much going on and I found there 1) wasn't enough time to write things downs and 2) if I did find time to jot notes they made absolutely no sense to me when I reread them later.

Good luck!!

Expect a lot of stress. Exercise regularly and get plenty of sleep. Think of your job as a sport.

Congrats!! I'm not an OR nurse, but I hopefully will be one day! Best advice is to do your best all the time and enjoy the exciting world or the OR.
