  1. I think you should stay where you are right now. You are extremely lucky to have landed a job and in the ER. I have been searching for a job since March 2009 and would be greatful to have a job. I'm sure you will gain more experience where you are. Good luck! Let us know what you end up doing : )
  2. Congrats on the new job! It must be really great to have a job right after school (I'm still looking for a job-it will be a year next month). Best of luck to you! : )
  3. Thank you so much for the support!
  4. Congrats!! I'm not an OR nurse, but I hopefully will be one day! Best advice is to do your best all the time and enjoy the exciting world or the OR.
  5. Hi OR nurses! I am interested in the OR and I wanted to know what you did before working in the OR? I'm a new grad and would love to work in the OR. Any helpful tips would be awesome : ) Thanks for sharing!
  6. Thanks for the advice. I will make some phone calls before I proceed with anything.
  7. Well I passed boards in March and have been searching for a job since. I have many interests including ER, trauma, cardiac and OR has been an area of interest since my day of observation in nursing school. I feel that a new grad should start on med/surg or tele and gain experience and then specialize. Although I am thinking about taking a two month course to train as a circulating nurse. It sounds really exciting. I talked to a circulating nurse and she said she had worked in a hospital for many years and applied to the OR but she never received a response. She took the same class I am interested in and before she finished it the hospital she had been working at hired her immediately. I would hope to have the same luck. I know I have no experience as an RN but I will have at least taken the class so they won't need to train me. Anyone out there that has been in this situation?? I would love to hear what all of you think! Should I wait on jobs opening up in the new year (everyone I talk to says jobs will be opening soon-but thats not a definte) or take the OR class?? Any advice?? Thanks!! : )

I don't think you should be so worried (you know a lot more than you think you do). The manager hired you because they know you will be a great L&D nurse. You should be really thankful that you have a job when you graduate because I have been searching for a job since March. Lots of luck to you! You can do it : )
  9. Was it hard for you to get into the OR as a new grad? I will be graduating in Dec. and I would love to work in the OR. Any tips for getting into the OR?
  10. Congrats!! That must be a great feeling to have passed NCLEX! Best of luck as an ICU nurse:wink2:
  11. I have not learned neuro material yet (very eager) and I would like to know what an assessment consists of on a pt. in SICU.
  12. I will be graduating soon and would like to work in the OR. I want to become a circulating nurse. Is there anything I can do to prepare for becoming one? I don't know what kinds of books in particular could be helpful to read. If anyone has any advice on becoming a circulating nurse it would be really great!:wink2:
